I recently bought a RROD console for cheap, fixed it no problem. Everything worked fine including the drive. I "badflashed" it (ixtreme 1.4 with correct the via chipset) and everything went ok.

Now when I press the eject button it just opens an inch and I have to manually open it the rest of the way. It reads backup games fine.

I am guessing this is some sort of flash problem since the drive opened and closed before with no problem.

Any help would be great!!

I doubt it is a flash problem, I have never heard of that before. It most likely is something in the way when you put the 360 back together. I would take it apart again, and then reput everything back together (being sure nothing is in the way).

need jtag help? Xbox 360 console repair? PM me or chat

The drive had never been opened when I received it (warranty sticker was there) and I did not open it. The drive displayed this behavior immediately after flash. I tried it with the case open and nothing in the way. It doesn't even try to open it further. I have experience fixing the eject problems on original xbox's and 360s. It just pops it out about an inch.

I took it apart and cleaned everything. Can you give me an idea where to put in some 3 in 1 oil to see if that is the problem?

Thank you for the reply

Look at the gears, towards the from and bottom of the drive, and see if there are any worn down or missing teeth.
You should be able to turn them manually to see if they are in proper working order.

I checked all of that. Like I said I have fixed many original and a few 360 drives that wouldn't open. This one just gives the one little push and it comes out an inch. Every other drive at least tries to open further or makes grinding sounds. Once again, before flashing the drive it opened and closed flawlessly every time.

I suppose I'll just leave it for now since it at least opens a bit and backups work. I just hope I'm not wearing down anything when I open it manually.

Thanks again for the reply!

Just wondering this, did you flash it with the a/v cable plugged in or pulled out? Also was the drive tray in or out when you flashed it?
Thanks

A/V cable was plugged in. Drive tray was in. xbox 360 was grounded to PC case with a wire.

In the tutorial it said wait 3-10 seconds and you should get a port error (before dumping and also before flashing) then turn on the 360. I waited 10 seconds and there was no port error, so I turned it on and it dumped/flashed just fine.

Try swapping the rubber band for another one mate, the one that goes over the two pulleys underneath the drive tray.

No dice, I am convinced it is a flash problem since I can't hear the drive even try to open further. It is acting like a laptop drive. You press the button and it basically pops out an inch. Not a bid deal, I don't mind manually pulling it out.

Thank you for the help!
