Do you have a retail version of Zelda Twilight Princess?

Do you have a non-secured SD Card?

Alright give me a second to write up a small guide. While I am doing that make sure you format your SD Card. Also make sure you play the Zelda Game normally for a few minutes till you can save the game data. In order to transfer the hacked game file over to the Wii system you have to play the game first.

Download this file HERE.

make sure the SD card is formated.

After you have downloaded the file extract it. Then transfer all files and folders that is in the "Boot Loader Gamma + HBC" folder to the ROOT of the Sd Card (transfer the files and folders inside the Boot Loader Gamma + HBC folder to the ROOT not the Boot Loader Gamma + HBC folder itself). After you do that place the SD Card in the Wii.

Now go to the Wii Data Management and find the Zelda game save you created when playing normally (Wii TAB) and delete the game save. Now select the SD Card Tab and find the Zelda Game Save (EUR) and copy it to the Wii system.

After you transfer it to the Wii make your way back to the Wii menu. Now put in Twilight Princess and launch it via disc channel. Load the game save that is listed then when the game starts walk back-words. This should launch the Twilight Princess hack and start installing the homebrew channel. Just follow the on-screen instructions to install the homebrew channel. After it has finished installing the Wii should reboot and you should now have the Homebrew Channel in the Wii menu.

Next you need to start the Homebrew Channel. When that comes up you will have a menu with a few applications listed. the first application you need to run is the cIOS installer. Run it and follow the on-screen instructions to install the cIOS.

Once you have installed the cIOS you can now play your backup games by placing it in the Wii drive and then starting the Homebrew Channel once again. This time choose the Wiigator gamma backup launcher in the list and boot the backup.

After you have done all of this you can now delete the hacked game save from the Wii via data management. You can then delete the following files and folders off your SD card.

00000001
private
boot.dol
and the cIOS_Installer249 folder located in the apps folder.

correct me if i am wrong but you have version 3.4 which needs a different download.
would you recommend me installing homebrew channel on 3.3 or updating to 3.4 since i have a modchip i don't think it matters.
thanks for the help

All i can do is suggest either updating to 3.2 firmware or go HERE and try using 1 of the alpha twilight princess releases.

I've been reading about these mods with great interest - but wondered just how close the wii is now to being software modded.

I have small children that by accident manage to damage a DVD disc every month - fortunatly its a copy of the original I never let them get near too - cant rememeber how many times I've copied Bob The Builder :)

The playstation discs have suffered the same and I'm pleased that the HD upgrade it received has allowed me to copy the most played games from those we've bought to the HD.

But the Wii - looks like its a much more involved process and unfortunatly I have one of the newest types that require a dremmel to attack the chip to expose the pins - not really something I want to do but may have no choice :( now if the creators of the games offered a reasonable replacement service for a small cost just above P&P then that for people like me would be a viable option and deter me from exploring chipping the device.

Offering up a suggesting in the hope that the clever people who develop these mods might read it -

Another device we own being an internet radio is updated in a simular way to the wii ie via online download - but its possible to effectively highjack the DNS entry of the host site so that the radio thinks its talking to and receiving a download from the manufacture where as really its talking to another computer on the same network and receiving a modded firmware that enables features and access that would not normally be possible - could the Wii be tricked in this manor to receive a firmware update that would effectively render it able to use backup discs ?

It is a very simple process to softmod the Wii now and play backups.

How you do this depends on what firmware you have.

What firmware do you have on the Wii?

I believe I have 3.4? Upgrade performed just last night.
Sounds like I need to do a lot more reading on soft modding, are there any pointers? If the softmod works whats the point of a hardware mod?
