Need some help here. I have a Japanese Wii (mod) which I purchased from overseas over a year ago. I used it for about 6 months after purchase. I want to begin using it again. I reading the forums, it looks like there are some new release of firmeware (1.9s?). I want to bring my system up to the latest. Hell, I am not sure what I have right now in terms of software... can't read Japanese. Anyway, can someone outline for me a list of things I need to do to bring the system up-to-date? I have never done this before but can learn pretty quickly.
Taking the upgrade from an out-of-region disk is a 100% sure way to brick or semi-brick your Wii.
You can only take upgrades from an in-region DVD (in your case, Japan).
@TC, you need to do a lot more homework. A friend of mine gave me a Wii just like yours last week to fix. As soon as I saw what he had, I closed it back up and said "sell it to someone in Japan, it's not worth my time to work on it". I did, however, clear his semi-brick before giving it back.
Thanks for the comment guys. It looks like my firmware is 3.4j. I purchased a US Wii Fit lask week. After inserting the CD, it came up with some message (I think it is asking me to install something). I took the default. Everything seems to work fine. I can play US Wii Fit and my old copied games. I am keeping my fingers cross though.
