Hey i just bought a FHDTV and my 360 doesn't have an HDMI port, I'm wondering using the composite cables am i still able to get 1080p quality from my 360? or does the HDMI cable produce better HD quality?

with composite video cables no way ... composite video can't even carry a high-def signal ....

COMPONENT however can carry a high-def signal. i'm not sure if that's what you meant cause the terms are very confusing... if your TV supports component video then that would be best since you don't have HDMI.

here is the page on m$oft that refers to the component cables::

1080p from component and 1080i from hdmi. I game on a large plasma that supports both and I cannot tell the difference between the
(p)rogessive and the (i)nterlacing formats. In my opinion when you get up that high in resolution the only advantage to the hdmi is less cable bulk. There is reports in some magazines that suggest the human brain cant' see a difference.

You have that backwards, 1080p is better than 1080i. However the i stands for interlaced, which is something i think only crt tv's do. The 360 spec's only go up to 1080i, but from what i understand lcd tv's and such convert that to 1080p (although i don't think it will be as smooth). As far as the difference between the hdmi cable and he component cables is the hdmi cables carry the signal digitally (video and audio), and the component cables are analogue. Most likely the only way you would really notice a difference is if you had a lot of interference w/ the analogue signal (which you shouldn't).

360s go upto 1080p.

component goes to 1080i
hdmi or vga will get you to 1080p (1920x1080)

my bad... you guys got the p and the i in the right place. thanks for the correction. the 360 does do both and my plasma allows and reports both formats but I surely can't see a difference. maybe the report on the plasma is just what the source is and not exactly what it is displaying... I 'll have to do some more research.

i dont think thats right ... if you look at the microsoft site they claim their component cable will do 1080p

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/

also a google search turns up many stores that sell premium 1080p component video cables ::

Well either way I goy it hooked up using components and IMHO it doesn't look that great from what i was expecting.

Talked with a friend who also has it hooked to his HDTV and he says he was dissapointed as well, but he hears that using the HDMI the result is notable, i'll have to check that out later.

like ps2 said... it depends on how your tv handles HDMI and component. then you have the issue of calibration with your tv too if you want the best picture (and that's user opinion as well).

you also can't compare your tv's picture to your buddies unless you both have the exact same tv. it's like saying my vizio doesn't look as smooth as my buddies sharp aquos. different sets -> different pictures.

well i use HDMI to my Pioneer Kuro and it looks fine... thing is I have never seen the xbox using anything but HDMI so i have nothing to compare it to...

my TV does report the 1080p signal as well but i've heard that the majority of XBOX 360 games are really 720p ... and being upscaled by the xbox to 1080 ...

does anyone know of an xbox360 game that is verified to be outputting at true 1080p resolution ??
