My Xbox 360 is currently getting the E74 error and I'm not too sure what is causing it. It works from time to time but I keep getting these little black dots all over the screen and sometimes I get the single red ring. This 360 has the Hitachi DVD drive in it. A friend of mine gave me another Xbox 360 that works except the Samsung DVD drive in it is all messed up. It was scratching discs and I guess a game got stuck so he forced it open by prying it. The tray is missing and when you turn the Xbox on the light flashes like it's opening/closing or reading a disc. All I want to do is swap my working Hitachi into this working 360. I have been out of the scene since the PS2 days and haven't attempted any work on 360s but I think I can fix it. What PCI SATA cards work with these drives and is it possible to get the key off this Samsung?

If I purchase another Samsung to replace the old one do I still have to extract and spoof the keys?

you will still need to inject the key from the broken sammy into the replacement sammy, spoof only if it's not the same model number.

No he doesn't need to inject it. If it's the same model and version the board can simply be swapped.

my bad, that option slipped my mind. why not do that dollaz? it just seemed to me you were looking to flash your replacement. Are you planning on updating the firmware to play backups? If so you technically won't be injecting any key but reading and writing to the drive will be neccessary.

I'm just trying to get a working Xbox 360. E74 is pretty much lethal if you ask me. This Samsung is probably fixable but the drive tray is pulled out and the band is missing. But if I remove the board and place it in a working Samsung it should be fine? I wonder if you can buy the bare drives without the boards?
