I've been getting the cheapest media i can find, Laser 4x dvd-r at $30 AUD for a spindle of 25. I was talking to Damon 1 though, and he and his friend have had troubles with these discs. I've tried them on 3 standalone dvd players and my xbox (piece of shite) and they all work... But obviously not on all players, Damon said he was having sticking playback probs at the end of the discs until he bought a new sony dvd player.

Anyway i'm well stoked with my cheap media, i just hope after another 6 months the disc's dye doesn't start to balls up.

That's my biggest concern, disc degradation. the compatibility for me isn't.

You guys obviously have cheap access to good dvds, where i live they're still trying to charge $5 for one 4x dvd, though i think that's +r, more expensive.

I've tried several brands and found that the best, inexpensive 4X DVD-R (or +) can be found a Fry's Electronics either online or a visit to their store. I've used over 200 and have never had a coaster. I've used them with a Pioneer 105 and currently the new NEC 8X. I'm waiting for someone to produce an affordable 8X.
