Hi everyone.
i did the xclamp trick with my friends x box, but once i go to over heat it , the fan cuts off straight away, leaving me to believe that the psu thinks its overheaing , causing everything to cut off.

I have fixed a few rrods, but have never come across this before.

can anybody please advise me what i can do to get it going.?

Usually once i swap the clamps for m5 bolts and various washers i position my fan on top if my drive and let the gpu overheat whilst cooling my psu.
Unfortunately as soon as i turn it on the fan starts for 2 secs then stops and i get the rrod but no heat and no fan :(

thanks in advance anyone that takes the time out to help me.

PSU is Power Supply Unit as in the AC power brick for the 360. I think you are referring to the CPU Central Processing Unit.

are the fans working the way they are suppposed to? maybe they are going bad and not spinning enuff to cool it down correctly.
Did u check the thermal paste to make sure you applied the correct amount and didnt overflow or not use enuff so that it is overheating very quickly due to metal on metal contact. I would check those and if it keeps up maybe the CPU is just fried even before you started working on it

Thanks for your reply.
sorry. psu?... i was talking about the cpu.

yes i put a pea sized blob of arctic silver thermal paste on the chips and spread it out very thinly and evenly using a credit card.

I have tried the standard fan + a 12v talismon whisper fan in it and they both cut off straight away.

i read before on a rrod guide that if you let the cpu and gpu overheat together that a thermostat by or in the cpu unit will cut the fan off and consequently the power to the 360.

Im not sure what to try next.

Please if anyone has any ideas please help!

Cool, maybe it just needed more pressure on the heatsink.
