I just recently went through a breakup with my girlfriend of 6 years. Well she decided last minute that the gift of HD was no longer a gift and that it was hers. I was low on cash and couldn't stand seeing my baby on a SDTV. I went looking for the cheapest alternative I could find which would be a monitor.

http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=E19T6W

The brand steered me away at first but I couldn't beat the price. I got it for $129.00 on a Black Friday sale. The specs say 720p HD ready, but my ps3 has picked up full 1080p. I checked the info using the on screen display of the monitor and it also said 1920x1080. No flicker, no irregularities, I am getting 1080p. So if you are unfortunate and are playing on a SDTV then you might want to look into this monitor. The picture is very crisp and I would have to say I am pleased with the product. Don't let the brand scare you away. I bought it and it had no dead or stuck pixles.

Sorry to hear that man, that really sucks.

I'm using a monitor myself its an acer x213w 21.6", picked it up at walmart back in the summer for $200. Mine only gets 720p though even though its a higher res than yours, my vertical lines are 1050. It gives me a unsupported signal message when I try 1080p or i on it. I wounder how yours allows a 1080 signal?

Either way a big thumbs up for monitors, cheap, good quality, and usually higher specs than the low end and sometimes high end TV's.

Yeah that is strange happened with my HDTV as well.

I was on a budget so ended up buying one that says t only supports 1080i. Plug in the PS3 it automatically states it can host itself at 1080p??

Anyone know any info on this stuff? Either the PS3s are lying to you or the TV companies are underselling their sets.

I think they are selling them with higher specs than they say. Mine for instance claims a max of 1440x900. When my ps3 is hooked up then the monitor tells me 1920x1080. My TV didn't have 1080p so I am happy. I never realized how blurry images were at 1080i.

Which brings us back to asking why they are underselling their products? :P

Well in some cases a company may tell you what the native resolution is and not the max. My monitor specs say 1440x900 native and maximum. I would have been happy with just 720p, but when I hooked it up and saw that I got 1080p it was a nice little bonus. So like I posted earlier, if you are wanting HD but are short on cash look into a monitor. You can get a good monitor for $200 or less if you shop around. Just make sure that the monitor has a DVI or HDMI port and that it is HDCP compliant. I don't think HDCP is necessary, but BluRay movies need HDCP and the upscale feature for DVDs will not work without it. 1080p output on the ps3 requires HDCP

Well, as far as "underselling" their products, I figure it's a lot like how elevator weight capacities are listed under what their max load actually is. There might be safety issues or something that the companies don't want to worry about.

Whatever it is I don't care. 1080p!!!!!!! My 37 inch lcd only ran at 1080i. I was a firm believer that you couldn't tell a difference between 1080i and p unless the tv was at least 42 inches, but I was wrong. I can definitly tell a difference.

They are not really underselling the TV, it may accept 1080p but this is downsampled to 720p before it reaches the screen.
It is not physically possible to fit a 1920x1080 image on a 1440x900 screen.

The screen is what is telling me 1920x1080. I open the menu and look at the information section and it tells me 1920x1080 at 60 hz. I took into account what you are saying before I wrote this thread. I thought the PS3 was giving me a false positive.
