I need to know if I can just buy a fat psp or a slim psp if I want to install custom firmware on it. I was looking at the bestbuy website and it looks like they have a psp for $170 but it doesn't mention what kind it is. So I will assume that it is possible to install the custom firmware on it.
Also I would need a pandora battery + memory stick which looks like it would cost $20 from the dealextreme site ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12711 )
Is there anything else I'm missing that I would need to buy? Also, it sounds like the fat psp is better than the slim, so where could I get a fat psp from? And if it only costs about $200 for a psp and modding equipment then why do pre modded psps sell for like $400? It can't be $200 just for the work time put in to mod it.
You can get either a fat or slim psp, it doesn't matter-chances are though that you will not find new fat psp's for sale in stores anywhere. You also want to steer away from some of the piano black, or the blue madden pack slim psp's as these have the TA088v3 motherboard which cannot be modified at this time.
If its a fat psp you desire, try craigslist-there are many for sale on there, some of which have already had the custom firmware installed as well as having extras like memory sticks, games, cases, etc. (That will save you the trouble of having to buy the pandora setup..)
As far as what else you will need for your gaming, etc. I would recommend an 8GB memory stick-you can get one pretty reasonable at either circuit city or bestbuy-just dont be a cheapskate and get one from eBay as they are mostly counterfeit memory sticks which will give you problems later.
The reason(s) people try to sell pre-modded psp's for outrageous amounts is due to:
1) Convenience factor
2) Supply & Demand
3) Pure Greed
