So I have recently flashed my XBOX 360 to allow the playing of backed up games. I downloaded a few ISOs for 360 games. Reading through the forums here I found how to set a layer break and on IMG burn and set the samsung drive to burn to DVD ROM. The first 2 games i made work fine but the last 4 i have tried seem to load the menu screen and i can almost start playing before getting a "disc unreadable" error and exiting to the dashboard. Anytime I have made a game ripped directly from a disc we have, there is no problem. I am stumped. Maybe they are bad ISOs? but if so how come i can get all the way to a game menu? Also i am using memorex DVDR DL and they seem OK. I have also tried CloneCD and i get the same results. Any thoughts?

You should use better media like Verbatim or Ridata.

You can also try clearing the CACHE which helped my sons read error issues he was having. Go HERE and follow these steps to clear the CACHE.

No luck unfortunately. Although I was able to get a few minutes into the openening cutscene this time, but have yet to get past the menus when trying again. When I first used Prince of Persia, it errored on me a total of three times at different points in the openening cutscene and it would get further each time. After resetting each of those times, the game has worked flawlessly since. Any other ideas?

Turns out my media is fine. I switched over to my wife's DVD burner (which is just a newer version of my Samsung) and all my ISOs have burned just fine. My friend and I have both been using the same Memorex media and his have all worked great, and now mine are all great. Whats the big deal with the media? What is so different about it that everyone points to that first?

dude, it's obviously the first thing people point out for a reason. Because memorex does not make the best media. Verbatim makes the best, which is why many lasers have issues reading other media besides verbs.

Why come to this site to ask our opinion, and then not listen/disregard it? You want to do it right, burn on verbs, otherwise, have fun replacing the laser shortly

I am not disregarding your opinion. I am simply looking for an explanation of why so that i can make a sound decision. So are you saying that using bad media will break my XBOX laser or my burning laser? Or is it just a matter of Memorex having a high failure rate on the discs? Of course I am going to buy Verbatim from now on due to the overwhelmingly good responses about them, but im looking to find out if my last ten Memorex will be OK in making a few more games.

he's saying due to the poor quality of memorex discs, it causes undue strain on your laser, causing it to burn out faster. use Ridata or Verbatim.

Memorex caused the laser in one my ps2's to go dead.

Here are a few other reason not to use cheap media. Cheaper media can be inconsistent with the grade of the media. Meaning you are more likely to get a bad batch of media with cheaper media then it is with Verbs or Ridata. As well the cheaper media can degrade faster in time because of the cheap dye they use. So the life span of a backup disc will be higher with Verbs or Ridata.

I've never heard of people using ridata for backups. I've only used verbs. Only other media I've heard people use is taiyo yuden.

I am having the same problem as rocksocks but I will go into more detail.
Here is what I have:
ixtreme 1.2
20 gig hard drive
imgburn

I use verbatim dl's (from singapore)
I live in the US
I download the NTSC region (us,asia, japan) and I get the disk unreadable from the console or it freezes at title menu.

I download region free and it urns and lays without no problems what so ever plays perfect. My region is set for the US. I have made 6 coasters by tring to burn at different speeds (4x or 2.4) still same issue. I have burnt all my region free at 2.4 speed. what could the problem be? Please help. I dont want to make anymore coasters beside I have run out of cups to place them anyway =0).............. Thanks in advanced

I am no expert, but using a different DVD drive to burn my games definitely solved my issues. I would give that a try.

That could be the case but I am still clueless on how region free iso's burn and play flawlessly then when I use ntsc free they dont play or freeze right away. Could it be so simple as the dvd drive? I did udate the firmware to my drive also. Still same result.

maybe its luck! hehe. When i was making games, my first few worked on my DVD drive also. I guess i didnt look at whether they were region free or NTSC, i just made sure they werent PAL heh. But after looking just now, the ones i burned first WERE regionfree... so maybe there is some ridiculous thing about NTSC discs and certain burners?

Maybe so. I did look at my other backups that I got from someone else. My madden 08 was just US region. So when I get some more Verbatims I will try the us only. FYI don't use memorex that is crap media. Even the WII hates memorex. I do have a couple of mem's for the 360 nothing but problems with them. It is true Verbatims are the best to use.
