Is there anyway to use ICS and connect to live, just for updating score or downloading updates, like using Dialup?

GF's lil bro can't get Highspeed, and he can't always drive 45mins to come and update at our place, can we somehow tether his connection on his PC so he can update his gamerscore and download game updates? he know's he won't be able to play on live, but just wants the ability to upgrade his GS.....before he spends the money on a long ethernet cord he was curious if this was possible, his comp has a 56kmodem and an ethernet card.

im afraid the ethernet cable is the best way to go. unless you connect his 360 to the phone liine directly.

look up ethernet to phoneline connector.

i dont know what you mean by updating gamerscore. is that to update his online stats?

I know people have been able to use internet connection sharing to connect to xbox live. The most common usage (that I've heard of) is people do it because they don't want to buy a wireless adaptor, so they just connect their 360 to a laptop, and the laptop wirelessly connects to the network.

So I would imagine the same concept could be applied, but I don't know if it would connect over the slower dialup connection. I've never heard of anyone doing it, but it's worth a shot. Give it a try, and let us know.

Well has everyone watched the halo 3 limited edition extra disc? In one of the extras on the disc they tell you xbl will work with a dialup connection (which is really odd and probably really laggy). Anyway i would guess you would run the cable from the comp to the xbox, and then bridge connections from the modem to the nic so the xbox gets an ip address.

Oh and a quick google search and what do you know

XBox Live on Dial Up
So, you want access to the horse armor for Oblivion, but you're stuck with dial up at home? Fear not! With a little creative thinking, you can get online, even with dial up, as long as you have a PC.

The first thing you have to do is LAN your 360 and your PC together. The easiest way is to hook your 360 to your Ethernet port on your PC. Next, fire up that dial up connection of yours. Then setup a home network using the wizard in the Network Connections screen, choosing your dialup connection as the internet connection and the Ethernet port as how you connect to other connections. This will make the dialup connection shared. The 360 will think it has a broadband connection to the 'net, when in fact it just has a broadband connection to your PC.

Now, you're not going to be able to play most games online, as the lag would be so monstrous that you wouldn't be able to do anything, but this works for downloading content from the Marketplace, getting patches, and buying Live Arcade games. Since the Silver membership to Live is free with the purchase of the 360, you've really got nothing to lose. Good luck!
