Hey guys,

I have a LG (GDR-H30N) it was recommended that they might work with the dumps software however DumpRaw does not detect this drive says "Drive Failure".

So i tried out Friidump and it seemed to work, now when i started the dump it did say the drive was not on the compatibility list but reverted or something and did the dump. Created the ISO File now in the Friidump it did not list the game name or anything it did say it was Wii disk ( Wii sports ) the only disk i had at the moment.

So it created the ISO i checked the file size and its bang on, named the ISO file as Friidump left it unnamed.

Now this is where my issue starts both powerISO and ISOmagic could not read the ISO file saying it was an in valid image file. Alcohol 120% did read it and created the disk with no issues.

HOwever my Wii will not read it; it says disk read error. I bought the Wii brand new modified from a local store who at the time let me try out a couple of backed up games to show me that it was working fine.

What am i doing wrong here? I tried two different types of DVD-R not sure the brands as they are the printable ones with no markings on them. and i burned at the slowest speed it would let me 4X.

Am i pooched here not using the RIGHT GDR drive? i mean would it still have dumped the right size ISO file if the Drive was not correct? Or is it bad Media?

Anyone have any ideas before i go out and pay way too much for the right DVD Rom drive or a new burner?

Thanks in Advance.

Michael

It is most likely your drive, but you might as well try this first since it doesn't cost anything.

I dont know what kind of internet connection you have but it might be worth your while to download a torrent of a wii disk with comments on the site saying it worked. On DSL this will take 24+ hours, but it will let you know if its the fault of the drive or if it is your burn method or media. I'd also try burning with imgburn as well. Not that alcohol cant burn it, but more people use imgburn and have success with it is all.

And dont worry that things like poweriso cant read the image, wii disk images are unreadable by any programs like that.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes i tried imgburn but it did not seem to work, i can't recall the error now as i am at work but i was trying soo many freaking things over the weekend.

I have tried downloading a torrent however have downloaded 3 now and all three showed up as invalid formats or the wrong sizes so the dumps where bad :( Alot of time wasted there.

The right LG drives are soo hard to come by now unless you want to pay big money for used ones, and i am soo worried about buying a dud.. lol

Well as I said, wii images will ALWAYS show up as invalid formats when you try to open them, even when they're perfect dumps.

You do have other options as well of course. There are 2 different ways to dump disks using the wii. One where it dumps the image in chunks to the SD card and you merge them together on your computer and another where you dump the image from the wii directly to your comp via wifi.

I was unware you could dump them from the Wii to the SD cards.. Is this using the homebrew thing?

Anyways..

The ISO file is whats not being recoized.. when i tried in a couple of ISO programs it said the ISO file was not a valid ISO image.

But luck would be a lady tonight!!!!

I finally got a call back from one of our local computer shops who had a GDR-8163B sitting around and could not understand why i wanted an old dvd-rom drive.. lol He sold it to me for $15....

So now i will try using that Rawdump software again tonight and see if that works using one of the recommended drives!

For the 3rd time now: Thats how its SUPPOSED to be. There are NO commercial iso programs that can open a wii iso. They all say its an invalid iso or the filesystem is corrupt or some other error like that.

Anyway, good job tracking down an LG drive. Let us know how it worked out.

So then how do you burn the ISO file?????

I have tried all the programs as suggested, Like i said in the first post it was not until the Alchol 120% was i able to "Make DVD from ISO File" using the other programs imgburn included i got errors saying there was something wrong with the ISO file that was created using the FIIDUMP.

But yes i picked up new media, grabbed a couple of extra burners from work to make sure its not my burner and i have the correct LG drive and this dam thing better work :D..

I will know in about 6 hour and its killing me to wait.

A common mistake among novices is to just set the iso to open with a specific program and then double click it. This results in the program attempting to view the contents of the iso and giving the error message.

What you want to do instead is open the program, then find the 'burn image to disk' or some similar option. With most programs this bypasses the attempt to open the image and lets you just burn it.

Alternatively, you could just use imgburn. Theres a reason that nearly any person on this forum would recommend imgburn over just about any other burning program.

Much appreciated.

I did try imgburn it was one of the first programs i tried thanks to this board, However like suggested i might have been trying to open the ISO file instead of just burning it. Which i did do with alcohol but it did not work in the Wii.

The media i had was only 4X or 32X atleast they where the only options i had in the software when i burned it. So i have bought new media DVD -r 1x which i will try out as well..

I was just stumped on the fact that Fiidump actually created the unnamed ISO File to the right size. Never know maybe it was my burning that cause the issue and the other LG drive i have works.. lol i could only be soo blessed i guess.

Will let you guys know tonight. Got about 8 games coming from family for Xmas so it would suck to have to download all 8 ISO files which is why i am trying to figure this crap out.

Woooo wiiieeee!

So,

Just got home and hooked up the new drive and it works! Vista picked it up no issues.

Loaded up RawDump 2.0 and found the drive listed twice, Funny thing is in explorer vista picks up the DVD too, atleat when i put the disk in exporer then said a DVD Disk was in it!

So in Raw it listed the drive twice, left it with the selected drive and got the error... kind of freaked and almost tossed the computer out the window!! But reopened RawDump and selected the other drive this time both having the exact same name.. and it works... its dumping as we speak!

Says like 2 hours 23 mins to dump Wii Sports. And i downloaded imgBurn i had downloaded the wrong software on the weekend and i am buring the ISO file i created earlier so we will see what happens with that.

OH BABY!

Alrighty!!

So i installed the new drive, ran RawDump 2.0 and with out an issue dumped Wii Sports to an ISO file!

then opened up Imgburn and burned the ISO to a Phillips DVD -R and brought it downstairs and ran it in my Wii with no issues!

I am now finally on track here :D
