xclamp applies pressure in a way that causes board to flex upward. the bolts apply direct pressre on the corners instead of pulling the corners of the heatsink down and pushing center of board up which is what causes the board to flex when high heat is applied.

I have just done this procedure and it worked out very well. No problems what so ever. Just dont forget, after you do it you need to let the xbox run with out the fan connected for 10 minutes or so until you have 2 red rings, this means that the xbox has overheated and has soldered its connections back in place. Turn it back off then on and it should work! I used .80 x 10mm machine screws (8), M5 Flat metal washers (24), #10 nylon flat washers (8). Hope this helps.

if the fan isnt connected at u can possibly fry the CPU, instead leave the fan plugged in and just move it so it only cools the cpu(large heatsink)
some ppl say 2 mins is enuff to do the overheating, if done too much the gtraphics chip will become fried and never work proberly again no matter what u do

stealths quite right dont fry the cpu like he says put the fan over the cpu i do every repair with just 5mins of heat and never had one go wrong yet but i found putting a coaster on the top of the dvd drive then the fan on top and just sucure them temporarily in place with a bit of tape cos as the fans get faster they will move about
