hey
i'm tryinig to back up some data on my blank dvd-rw disc that came with my burner. I'm burning the data to the disc with win xp, have 4 gig worth of stuff set up as an immage ready to burn, and the compu shows i got 4.38Gig of free space. However when i click on "write these files to CD" my compu tells me that i need to insert a cd that is writable or not full, which i allready have!!!
what do i need to do to tell the compu it has a DVD-rw in it??
thanx

DVD RW blanks need to be formated first before you can use them. Use the software that came with your burner drive to format the disk. Nero, Roxio, RecordnowMax.

KimChi,
Put your DVD in your drive, right-click and choose "Format".
An additional problem can occure by using poor quality media - I recommend Ritek G04 or Verbatim media - you can't go wrong there - you can get them at a good price at Mertline.com :-)
Quality Media will always treat you right - depend on it -
Welcome to our little corner of the net :D

KimChi,
You don't have to worry about erasing your DVD-RW, whenever you want to write something else to your disk, you'll receive a message telling you that there is something is on your disk and do you want to "Overwrite it" - just click "Yes" -
It's like a VHS tape in that you don't have to erase it, you can just "tape" over it. The difference being, nothing of your first writing will be left - just the last stuff you wrote :-)
Keep buying Verbatim discs, they?ll never let you down :D
BTW, Welcome to the Club :D
