one important step having opened gtrom is you need to click and drag the up date software over to the bin file box then it should get you started

If you can get to a pc with xp and a 9 pin connection so you can use the null modem without the usb you should be able to flash no problem.

Are you sure its a null modem, have you flashed anything with it? It might just be a standard rs232 cable?

Are you using the 4.03 loader with the 4.55 firmware?

What Starview box have you got, what does it say at the top left hand side corner, front of box. And you will get the correct information, there are 4 box's in the Starview range, and if you flashed your Eurovox with the lead then it is a NULL MODEM correct lead.

Are you trying to update Starview 2 The Box, if so then what way are you doing it (NULL MODEM with or without an Adaptor), and what firmware is it that you are using.

Okay, then that is Starview 2, are you using this firmware and the loader GTRom 4.03, and you have not said whether you have an Adaptor coupled with the NULL MODEM lead. But delete the firmware you have and try again with this - it might have become corrupted.

Loader

It is worth a try.

Hey,
I had a similar problem. If you can load the new firmware using the SW download option in the Menu. That should work.
If you cant do that here is what you do:
1. Make sure the box is plugged out.
2. Connect your null modem cable to the box
3. Click download on the GtRom loader ver 4.03
4. As soon as you have done that plug in the box. You have to be quick doing this.
That should do it. You might not get it right the first time as the timing has to be right.
I believe its the same procedure for repairing a bad flash.
Here is a thread detailing that http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/531363
