I currently do not have a computer or internet at my house. I am at my friends house using his computer to do certain things. I just purchased a ps3 from Walmart and i know that you can go online with it. My question is, do you have to have a computer at your house to be able to hook up to the internet with a ps3? If i do not have to have a computer and i just need a ps3, how do i go about gettin the internet on it and get it to work? Any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
No, you do not have to have a PC. If you have a hard wired phone service, contact your phone service provider. You may be able to get DSL. Many ways to get internet access. Hard wire phone, Cell Phone, Cable etc... With anyone of these internet services, you will receive a modem. Your PS3 will be connected to the supplied modem.
I heard that you can somehow use a neighbors internet as well. Is this true? If so, what do i have to have extra besides the ps3 and what all would i have to do?
I'm not sure on this, but if you somehow have a 200-feet ethernet cable, you can physically connect your PS3 to your friend's router.
Additionally, if your friend's router is a wireless one and the signal strength is good enough, you can simply have your PS3 search for wireless connections. I doubt you'll be able to get a signal, though. But there's nothing wrong with trying it out.
...and there might be some more advanced setups available, but I only know the basics.
The ps3 has built in Wi-Fi
You can have it scan for a signal, if finds one you can use it.
But only if the neighbors wireless is unsecured.
I don't think they would appericate you using up their bandwidth though.
