I have soldered in a generic wiikey.
I have Burned dvd-r's of the 1.9s firmware and 1.9s "padded" firmware.
I also have the 1.3 setup disc.

But when I boot to either of them it comes up with a menu screen but I cannot browse the menu with either a Wii controller or a gamecube controller so I am stuck. :( I know I am not doing something simple but can someone please walk me through the next steps I need to do?
My Wii specs: 1st edition Wii, Original Wiikey clone.

Did you try scrolling with the reset button?

Wii controller will not work.

Gamecube controller should work if it's in controller 1 port.

New Developments. I hope I have not been blocked now.

So since my previous setup discs and firmware discs I could not use a controller or get them to load, I burned a backup of my new "nppl championship paintball 2009" and put it in just to see if maybe it will already play my backup as is. But the game immediately began installing an update which may have updated the Wii bios which now may be blocking my wiikey.
It says improper device detected when I try to play the backup game. And i burned a new 1.2 config disc and on boot up it says "An error has occurred, press the eject button......." My current wii bios is 3.1U. Which is higher than what I had before. Am I screwed? Do wiikey clones already work after installing or do you HAVE TO install a firmware first like 1.9g or 1.9s. Please help, I am hoping to get everything working before Christmas.

If I boot to my 1.9s firmware disc. I can press A with the gamecube controller to "run TEST cycle" but after it get's to 100% finished it comes back and says, "ERROR: test failed! Check your connections and try again." Is my new 3.1u Wii bios now blocking my wiikey?

Io used this guys method to change the iso size down to a gamecube sized disc. But still no love. :(

Do I have to start with the earliest firmware and move my way up to 1.9s? Should I try 1.9b and see if that works first before trying to flash to 1.9s?
