Safe to be logged into live with modded xb360 but not play online?

I just picked up an old xb360 today and flashed the Hitachi drive. Works fantastic and my first "backup" works great too.

The problem is when I start it up it says "to save your game you must be logged into live do you want to log in now". Is this safe to do? I do not want to play online (have no pay-live account), but I don't want to get banned. If not how can I save my games?

There are tons of posts on being banned. But you shouldn't ever have to log into live to save a game (at least that i know of). It probably wants you to sign into your gamer profile. Unplug your cable and try signing in to save.

but regardless yes you can still get banned even if you only play backups offline (not while offline but as soon as you connect to live, which is whenever you plug in your ethernet cable).

Ha, I feel so silly now for not trying that. I just needed to pick sign in and pick my profile, no network cable attached.

I don't plan on ever "paying" to play the games online so I don't guess I will have much use for the live service. As long as I can play games offline and hook into my network to stream stuff that will work great for me.

I have read quite a few banned posts and that is a bummer that when I do connect the cable, without even playing a game online, that I may or may not get banned. At least I updated to the new menu thing before I flashed the drive.
