Okay I have a PS3 80GB model (the new ones) on Lay-by and was wondering weather it can play PSX discs? I know the new ones can't play PS2 games but I want to know about PSX games...

EDIT
Also can I just output it through HDMI or will it only work on AV or Composite?

one more question, if I had a PSX Game already on my PSP could I use remote play to play it on my PS3? if so does it work on PSP's with Custom firmware?

Anything the OFW PSPs can do, the CFW PSP can do and more, including connecting to the PS3.
And no, you can't import PSX games into your PS3. It can only be done the other way round.

Okay, rather than create another thread with the practically the same title I'm just going to ask my question here. I have one of the newer 80GB models with 2 USB ports and have heard that this model is not BC with PS2 games (and most likely isn't). What I'm wondering about though is why I have an option to create PS2 memory card through the Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2) if I can't play PS2 games?

Thanks for the advice,

Parker

Not sure actually. Maybe Sony just forgot to remove that icon from the machine before they put it on the market.

Heh, that glimmering ray of hope doesn't seem to fade. Guess I'll see if I can borrow a PS2 game from some one.

Well, it seems pretty logical to keep the OS the same through all the machines, even if the hardware is a bit different. It makes sense that even the new models would have the PS2 VMC icon.

If Sony didn't keep the OSes the same, the firmware updates would become much more of a hassle, I'd assume. In that case, the fact that there's a PS2 memory card utility isn't so much a lack of foresight as it is preserving simplicity. I don't think it'll mean the PS3 will be able to play PS2 games.

...at least not yet.

I would assume that it's still there because you can use it to back up your PS2 game saves on it if you have a memory card reader.

If I ever get my hands on a PS2 game I'll find out for sure, but to be honest I think you guys are right. Keeping the OS's the same is very logical and they might someday get around to an update that will allow software emulation.
