Hello all,
I am BRAND NEW to this site and forum. I saw that one guy had hooked up a keyboard and mouse to his xbox 360 to play Call of Duty 4. I SUCK at xbox 360 and have been an avid PC gamer for over a decade...
Can anyone explain to me how to use my precious keyboard and mouse on my brand new xbox 360 so I can stay alive long enough to rank up?
THANKS IN ADVANCE
-JD

You'd need either an XFPS or a Max Shooter. That'll allow you to connect a kb/m to your pc.
Both work, but neither compare to the feel of actually playing on a pc due to touchy settings and being somewhat laggy.
So the next step is to either buy an XIM, which works with the XFPS/Max Shooter, or buy an XIM2.
The XIM's use a pc/laptop to run the software. This eliminates the need for tweaking the XFPS/Max Shooter. Using an XIM will give you the same feeling as playing a pc fps.
Also, the XIM works with both the 360 and the PS3.

Hey yeah - you're the guy I saw!
So, I just need to get an XIM... I will be "googling" that on my lunch break! I've used a Logitech Marble Mouse and standard keyboard and do "fairly decent" on FPS's; however, I cannot get used to those stupid "toggle buttons"
Thanks man!

No no...
You can just get away with either an XFPS or a Max Shooter used by themselves with a kb/m. But if you're use to playing on the pc, then you'll get pissed trying to use either of those on their own. Like I said, they work, but they don't work good.
For the true mouse accuracy, that's where the XIM comes in.
XIM - you'll also need a wired controller and either XFPS or Max Shooter. Either is needed because they'll allow the use of aftermarket accessories which aren't certified by MS.
An XIM can be build fairly quickly by anyone with decent soldering skills. I sell a ton of these on ebay. An XIM is made up of a Silicon Labs USB Toolstick flashed with specific firmware and which has a Playstation controller cables soldered to it. The PS2 cable plugs in to the port on the XFPS/Max Shooter.

XIM 2 - is actually a mod chip installed in a wired controller. Eliminates the need for either the XFPS or Max Shooter. This is an XIM 2 I just finished for a guy over in the U.K.

There's both pro's and con's of using either.
XIM - easy to find, inexpensive addition for someone who may already have a wired controller and XFPS/MaxShooter, works on both PS3 and 360, allows macros, runs at 28~32 updates per second on the 360 and 58~62 updates per second on PS3.
XIM 2 - expensive, as of yet can not be found unless you're willing to pay $250-$350, no macros, only works with 360, runs at 58~62 updates per second.

so are u using those prices as what you would pay from someone else or is that what you charge to create one of these for your customers.
I started on consoles gaming back on NES and then Genisis then PS1 and then i switched to PC gaming for the loce of online FPS games. now PC is too expensive to keep upgrading and more games on consoles overall(but best fps online action still has to be BF2 sooo many memories:)
but i had always held off on using XFPS system for the very reasons u note here with configurations and it not exactly working 1:1 (kb/m:gamepad)
but i dont see that mod being worth 200+....so why is it so high price? is it hardware that is needed or is it just tons of tedious soldering that takes a loooongtime?

Thanks for the update...
After visiting I've decided that I'll probably shell out the $$ for an XIM2 just so I can destroy my friends who are destroying me now. If only they had more....

Those were the prices people were getting on ebay. There was a very limited amount of do-it-yourself kits available awhile back, and some of the finished XIM 2's found their way to ebay.
Myself, I ordered 3 diy kits. They sat around until recently when I decided to build them. I've sold 2 completed XIM 2's for $170 each, and the third is mine.
The XIM 2's are suppose to be readily available sometime in January or February and there is a huge group waiting eagerly to purchase. But the XIM team developed a new board with quick solder points, unlike the board seen in my post above. They're hoping to have those boards by Jan/Feb so they can start building XIM 2's. Well, I shouldn't say "they", it's only one person building them.
And unlike the original XIM, which anyone could build their self by ordering the parts for from any online electronic component dealer, the XIM team is going to keep the X2 only available as a finished product through them. I had asked one of the guys a few days back about making the boards available again as a diy kit, and he said they aren't going to do it again.

No problem.
The final price is to be approx $150 plus shipping for the XIM 2 when they get them available.
They said the price will be comparable to buying an XIM 1 and the wired controller and XFPS which is needed to use it.

so are they just shipping the peices to assemble yourself in your own controller or are they doing installs as well?
150 is a high price but i understand what it takes to create such things so i am not complaining. just wish i had deeper pockets lol

The $150 plus shipping will be for a completed XIM360 (that's the XIM 2). It will already be installed in a controller and ready to plug and play.
