Hi,
I am rather new to the Wii homebrew scene and so I would like to ask about some of the Wii jargon which I have come across.

WADS
From what I can gather WADS are files that contain game channels and firmwares. You install them using homebrew WAD installers.

cIOS
All i know about this is that the 'c' stands for custom and so it is custom IOS but I am very confused and clueless about what it is used for and what it does.

Can anyone help me out by correcting me if I am wrong and/or adding as much information as you can to makes things a lot more clear? Any information is appreciated.

Thanks!

Correct on wads.

IOS's are firmware patches or updates, often contained inside wad files. cIOS's are custom firmwares and allow the wii to do things that it normally wouldnt be able to do, such as read burned disks without a modchip or install wad channels on a firmware that wouldnt allow it.

Since cIOS's are firmware updates and such, and are custom made. How will that effect the Wii's ability to update officially?

So far no, that hasnt been an issue. Though some newer firmwares do overwrite some of the cIOS's.

I was just wondering, I hear a lot about how people have say, multiple IOS's installed. Why would they need more than one and if so, why don't they just install every IOS?

So you can just update normally if you use cIOS's?

I think you have to be on latest version to play WFC (not sure) but in the case that you have to be at the latest version for a Nintendo service, what is the workaround when using a downgraded version (for WADs) By this I mean if I downgrade to version 3.2 to use WADs how can I use WFC (in the case that it requires the latest version)?
