The 1.4 flash worked without a problem. I have a Sony DRU820A and burned using imgburn, booktype DVD-ROM, and 2.4x with Memorex DVD-DL discs. I keep getting the open tray error so I tried using the Hitachi "square plastic" fix by taping a 1cm piece of plastic on the inside of the drive. My backup loaded just fine so I turned off the Xbox to put everything back together. I wanted to make sure the plastic was in place and secure so I repositioned it. Now I can't get any backups to load. Originals and DVDs work fine. Is there a good guide for the POT adjustment and what do I need for it? Or should I try and get some Verbatims?

using crappy dvd's can cause this. your laser is probably pretty weak and is having a hard time reading them. i would get some verbatims first and if that doesnt help then look into pot tweaking.

and if you decide you need to do pot tweaking here is a link to a decent tutorial.

Yeah, I found a really nice POT tweak guide. I don't have a multimeter though and don't want to attempt it without one. A couple of questions. Because I got the backup working that one time it proves that my DVD writer will successfully burn backups with good media, right? And can someone explain this 1cm plastic piece trick and the specifics behind how it works?
