just got ring of death on my boyfriends 360, after game crash on fallout 3, checked error code with sync button and got the 0102 error, any suggestions. also he's out at the mo and doesnt know this has happened any suggestions on how i should break the news?

"0102 Error in the "Digital Backbone" (CPU/GPU/RAM), this is usually caused by a cold solder joint between the GPU and the mainboard.
There are two theories to fixing this one deals with the "X" clamps that hold down the chips. The other involves re-Heating the chips. DO NOT attempt either of these if your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under warranty return it to the store where it was purchased or call MS to have it replaced."

so if he has warranty call MS and get it sent in they will fix for free if it looks like it hasnt been opened. if u need to go on ebay and buy a new warranty sticker and send it in.

umm ok well i didnt say go sell them i said go buy them. its not mine or any other persons concern here if the seller gets banned. so maybe go to ebay forums and send them a warning.

hey stealth... the same goes for the buyer. I am living proof. It was a courteous for me to warn the poster you informed to go get one. Although you may not care if they get banned I actually do. It is nearly impossible to get back on ebay and can be a great hassle if you supplement your income on ebay.I personally don't see a problem with buying one of the stickers but apparently ebay does.

To address the 102 error, I would reflow all major components with a professional rework station. Also you can break it to your bf as simply as "it's broke" as all 360 are subject to rrod unless you cool them properly. Microsoft does not cool them adequately especially if you put the console in a shrouded area you can almost expect a rrod.

ah well the wording made it sound as if only the seller was at risk not the buyer. But if that is the case then yes the warning was needed. Myself i do not mess with ebay and/or paypal. bother services do nothing but cater to identity theives and scammers. I sold a projector for 400 bucks and requested a signature, fedex doesnt get signature, the buyer does a charge back and gets all his money back while i have -400 according to ebay and paypal(lucky for me i took the money out of the account and spent it asap before they did the negative charge) and all they do is say they investigated but did nothing at all. screw them i said never used again.

and yes finding someone with a reflow station to do all that stuff will work but odds are most people cannot find one locally and do not want to send to some unknown to get fixed so it isnt very practical for most people. best bet is MS warranty or xclamp fix if no warranty support.
