Has there been a pole taken to see what the best media center is?

For the longest time I was using TVersity. I had a few problems with it not wanting to play back some movies that it used to play (streamed from NAS).

I downloaded a media center called Twonky (cracked) and it works well.
It plays the files that TVersity says is corrupted.

I've tried Nero, TVersity, Windows Media Center, and Twonky. I am very impressed with Twonky.. not even a Megabyte in size. Quick setup and it was kind of free.

right now the best one even better than tversity is

http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

it takes all my vob files in a folder and make one ISO, the only problem I have is that when it contains 5.1 audio my video is not insync with the sound. But I believe if I can convert them to a single VOB it should not be a problem, or I might see if I wire my PS3 directly to my network will make it sync better. But if you have a single file the program does not have to piece it togehter for you and you just stream it, I like this guys what he did and to me its the best option.

I've tried this and the good news is that it does play the mkv files that tversity wouldnt. The bad news is that if the mkv has subtitles or dual audio, eg anime which is both subbed and dubbed like I have, then it'll only play the default language and you cannot change it or enable/disable subtitles.

If twonky does this let me know.

Sooo the PS3mediaserver will stream a MKV on the PS3????

I see the point of multiple audio languages and subtitles, but I could simply demux what I wanted, use MKV Merge, put it back together and it should work?? What about DTS Audio?? Does the audio need to be converted to AC3?

Sorry, u got me thinking.

See that is what I am looking for...an all in one solution. Even though Tversity does 95% of what I need it for I want one that will allow the selection of secondary audio or at the very least subtitles! But it's okay I guess, it's just another avenue to make things easier and if not then I will just use my PC. No big deal. Hopefully something will come in time. My guess is that it would probably come from PS3 Media Server first (if at all).

Of course that's entirely possible, but that's not the problem. The problem is that its a massive pain in the ass just to get what you need when it is already there in the first place.

Its one thing just for a single movie but I much like bigo93 watch series's. So having to redo an entire series just to get it to stream properly is ridiculous, and the ends usually don't justify the means. Thankfully most anime these days have their sub's hardcore'd, but I've ran into a few that have had 3 different audio tracks and about 6 different subs.

with the ps3mediaserver I believe the transcoder gives you the option to play several tracks in forms of seperate ISO. I have to test it out with a rip I just did to see if it picks up both tracks. I really don't have a problem since I only keep one audio and one subtitle to save space on my harddrive.

And with the ps3 media server although you do not get the option to set the subtitle from the PS3 it does give you the option on the PC to turn it off.

Also this is totally new the guys done a few releases and it looks very promising and its getting better and better.

I like a lot of what I see in this program but until the sync problem is fixed on the 5.1 I will be using something else. I like 5.1.
