Complete guide to modchip ID

1) Open the console (you'll need a triwing screwdriver)

2) Take a picture of the modchip

3) Post the pic on here and someone will ID it for you

Sorry, theres no other way to tell. Unless you tell us what problems you're having, which can sometimes narrow it down.

thanks for your reply penguin98!! i'm gonna have a go at taking it apart later, if it helps, the problem i'm having is that i can play some games but the newer ones don't work, in the past i have added a patch I found on this site to SMK and that made the game work fine but it was so long ago i don't remember what patch?

Is it error 001? Thats a common error with some older modchips, wiikey in particular. If you're getting that error I'd say theres about a 90% chance you have a wiikey.

yeah thats the error!! So do you think it could be a Wii Key??, as a newbie, i'd probably prefer not to take it apart to identify it (i'm a bit heavy handed!!)

Thanks!! If I just follow it assuming that i have a wiikey, is there any chance of it messing up my wii if it's not a wiikey inside?

If its not a wiikey the update will just fail and nothing will happen.

Hey Penguin,

I follwed the thread, booted the update disk and it gave me an error saying (along the lines of) "error - please check connection", do you think it's safe to say i haven't got a wiikey??
