Thanks to all that helped, I'm quite shattered with having no solution to the problem and the long long hours, yet learned alot from the advice you all gave. Maybe tomorrow when refreshed after a nights sleep.
Good luck to you all and merry season greetings.
Thanks again.
Chorai.

You are now getting very frustrated, and I can quite understand that, but I have to say again that your problem is with that damn USB Adaptor. So do yourself a favour and go and seek a friend, aquaintance or anybody with a standalone PC with the correct 9 pin serial port, and you will have it done no problem, save you a lot of headache, so think who might have one, not everyone uses laptops.

If you have a standalone PC with the 9 pin serial port on, and you are just using the one NULL MODEM from PC to Box, and it is not flashing, then you have got to have the incorrect cable. There are two cables and one is a straight through serial cable, they look identical, that is the only thing I can say as regards that, so you need to check it out. Because if you can not flash with a setup like that, then you are never going to flash.

I was having huge problems with the serial-usb connection. I have a prolific serial convertor. I had loaded the driver to a vista machine and tried to download the new firmware for the original starview. I got flash failed all the time. I got my hands on an XP machine and downloaded the driver from the net. Hey presto it worked. I think some of the drivers for vista are a bit dodgy try finding a newer version of a driver on the net. Download and rescan. Thanks DesB for the files. I am now frustration free!

After updating 10 boxes last weekend and updating my 2 sv boxes over the past 12 months i attempt to do a the box super today (done 2 of them alst weekend) and getting the failed to flash message. Tried another laptop, manually changing post settings ect. Going to have to try and mates pc for a direct serial connection, but it doesnt make sence to think it was working perfectly last weekend, tried a new cable also and to no avail
