i'm guessing the magnet is too strong, the problem is that the DVD tray is stuck when there is no CD inside but it comes off when i give a tap on top of where the little plastic DVD holder thingy is. i've seen ppl put like stickers on it but is there a premenent fix for it?
also my xbox didn't have the 3RROD yet but is it ok to do the fix beforehand, if so do i have to let it over heat or will just replacing the x clamps with screws do the trick?
thanks

my drive sticks too and wont open and i just tap it near the eject button and it opens, but usally only gets stuck after i have moved it around. so if it gets stuck and i unstick it then usually will not stick again untill i moved it around some more. like traveling.
if u dont have rrod but want to do the fix as preventive maintenece then u can do that, the overheat shouldnt be needed as you havent seen any issues. make sure u are very prepared with all needed tools and items to do the fix, make sure u use nylon washers and not just metal as they could grind into the board if only metal are used. and make sure u clean all the old thermal paste off and apply new paste which is extremely important. it took me like an hour to get all mine off with just rubbing alchohol but i got it to a mirror shine. so if u can get artic silver remover it will go much easier. otherwise the chips and heatsink will not sit flush together and that is really the whole point of the xclamp fix.
The sticking tray is a common problem, especially with Samsung drives.
The biggest cause is the build up of dust in the gear pully for the tray. That dust lets the drive belt (simply a rubber band) slip because the pull of the magnet.
The simple solution is to open your drive and clean the belt and pully with rubbing alcohol and a q tip. Wet the q tip with the alcohol and gently hold it against the belt while sliding the tray in and out with your hand.
And while you're in there, it'd be good to clean the spindle pad and the laser lense, again, with rubbing alcohol.
As for doing the x clamp with no existing problems, I'd say don't do it unless you've done them before and you know what you're doing. I'd say instead, while the console is open, install a Whisper Max. Those fans, although loud, really do work. Especially on the Turbo mode.
