hi,

I have a 40gb japanese ps3, a slimline ps2 and a benq g900w lcd widescreen computer monitor which has 1 VGA and 1 DVI connections and supports till 720p normally and a weird 1080i, but never mind the last bit. :p

anyways, I got a shitload of ps2 backups that have support for 480p and I'm dying to play them on my lcd screen as my crt doesn't have support for hd or 480p.

just tell me whether any of the following solutions might help me out in doing this task in the best possible image quality.

a) connect the ps2 to the lcd monitor directly through the dvi connection, and if so, is there such an adapter or vga box that allows transmission from the standard AV-multi/component cables to my monitor's DVI connection?

b) mod the ps3 using the ps2's hardware (yes, I am ready to take apart my ps2 for the sake of creating an ps2 compatible ps3), like taking the emotion chip and cpu from the ps2, planting them in the ps3 and then mod chipping the newly added chips to enable backup playing? is such a thing possible?

c) a software emulator for ps2 games on the ps3?

please, this problem has ached me for 2 months without prevail due to the idiocy of my local electronics and hardware shops, so any feedback will do, except flaming and bashing of course ;)

thanks in advance :D

I can give you a definite no on c. and d, and i've never heard of anything which could work for you in your first question either.

The only possible option is A, the other 2 are a definite no. If you can find an hdmi switch box with a component input you'll be good to go, and you wont have to swap wires in and out.

thanks for the highlight, I thought so as well but was just thinking about all the possible solutions.

one more thing though, is it called a vga box or switch box? I need the exact key term as the salesmen here don't understand much. Also, what exactly do I need to find in it (specs, inputs, capabilities, etc..) for it to be a candidate?

one last thing as well, my benq g900w has a native resolution of 1440x900 but outputs 720p very nicely, now, will 480p looks good? will it be in letterbox form or will it be widescreen or is that game specific?

I would be very grateful if someone would answer all of these :)
