This is gonna be long, so I apologize in advance, but this problem is very frustrating.
I am in the process of converting my old Hi8 tapes to DVD. I have been using Plextors Convertx very successfully to create mpeg2 files (the software for the encoding is WinDVD Creator). However, the WinDVD Creator authoring step was taking too long (seems like it was re-encoding the Mpeg2 file). So, I decided to give TMPGenc author a try. This has been working fine for the last several days. I would select "add file" and chose my mpeg2, and then burn to DVD. I was not doing any complicated authoring, just add some chapters and burning.
I actually got thru about 10 of my Hi8 tapes this way, very satisfied with the output. Then, all of a sudden, TMPGenc author will not recognize any mpeg2's I create. It states, when I attemp to "add file" -- "illegal video file, tmpgenc supports only mpeg1 and mpeg2" etc and will not author. But these files I am choosing are legitimate mpeg2 files. I went back to using Windvd Creator to author and burn to DVD, which it does fine, just takes longer than TMPGenc.
I have tried uninstalling TMPGenc Author, and reinstalled, still with same result. I am only on day 5 of my trial period, glad I didn't buy it yet. Can't get suuport from TMPGenc unless I buy and register, which I won't now unless I can get it to work again.
I have no idea what has happened, nothing new was added to my computer in the day TMPGenc author suddenly stopped recognizing my mpeg2 files. And as stated, it has been recognizing all my mpeg2 files created with the plextor convertx box and Windvd creator software up until today. Any thoughts? Thanks.
