How do I get backup Xbox games to work in the 360?

I can't seem to get older Xbox games to work on my 360. I've already updated the 360 by CD, plus I've already burnt the disc using Imgburn, and while I have managed to get the Xbox logo to appear on the screen, I keep getting some message about encountering an error. Can someone please tell me what else I need to do in order to get Xbox games to work on my console?
