Hello,

I'm a newbie here and also on the Wii. I recently purchased a modified Wii in Manila and was told by a local shop where I live that it's made in Taiwan and was modified (converted) to US. It has a 3.2U update. He said it has a chip (don't know which one) and that they used a software to convert.

What's the difference in US, Japan and Taiwan? He said that if mine ever got brick that I might not be able to have it unbricked because it was software modifed to US. He said his units, which are US and modified can be unbricked.

No problems yet but is there any precautions I need to take so that my unit doesn't get bricked?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

The basic difference is the video output standards (PAL vs. NTSC) a PAL unit will not play on an NTSC TV and vice versa.

The other is the language localization. The Japanese Wii test is all Japanese.

Basically, only play US NTSC backups and stay tuned to this board regularly to see if there will be any impact from software updates.
