Do you mean screen mode? For some reason the square isn't doing anything for me, but when I hit triangle and go to screen mode then zoom I get the right picture.

Thats it. I'm a little tired and I thought square did it. Did that work for you? That will work regardless of the TV.

Yep that worked great, thanks again. Now I've got to find out what kind of hard drive to get. I'm thinking a 320 won't do and I'll have to get a 400

.VOB files on a DVD video disk *are* MPG2 files. You can just rename the .vobs to .mpgs and they should intermix just fine.

To play a VOB file on PC, just use Cyberlink PowerDVD or any other good video proggie.

I haven't tried view a VOB file on my PS3 but I would imagine it should recognize it and play it just fine, since whenever you put a DVD in the PS3 and play a movie, it's playing VOB files.

If you want to convert a VOB to MPG just use VideoRedo - it'll convert straight to MPG2 with no quality loss.

Yeah I finally got it all figured out, here's how to do it:

This method is for backing up a movie to be the same quality as the original(you can back up the entire DVD, but it will use more space), but uses up about 5gb of space for a 2 hour movie so if you?re going to be doing many movies it?s best to upgrade your hard drive.

Yes you can convert the VOB file to another format that uses up a lot less space, but you will lose some quality and could run into various issues. Compressing the VOB is easy to do and has been being done for a while now, but if you?re picky about things like me you want the same quality as the original.

This method is to backup your OWN PERSONAL i.e. HOME VIDEO DVD's. You can use it for other reasons, but that's up to you, I do not condone it in any way.

Step 1, Download these programs and install them:

* DVD Shrink.
* PS3 Media Server.

Step 2 backing up your movie:

* Insert DVD.
* Open DVD Shrink.
* Click Re-author
* Select the drive that the movie is in and select Main Movie
* If you want to edit the movie just click on the two arrows beside the red X.
* Click on the Compression Settings tab.
* Uncheck all audio and subtitles that you do not want.
* Click Edit, Preferences, and then the Output Files tab.
* Un-check Split VOB files into 1gb size chunks then click OK.
* Click Backup!
* Select where you want the movie to be saved to (I'd suggest save it in the Videos folder)
* Un-check create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders.
* Click OK, the movie is now being backed up.

Step 3, Streaming files:

* Connect an Ethernet cable from the PS3 to the PC, you can do this wirelessly, but the files will transfer slower.
* Open PS3 Media Server.
* Turn the PS3 on.
* Give it a second to load up and the plug-in should change to a PS3 console and say PS3 has been found!
* Now go over to VIDEOS on the PS3 and if PMS isn?t already there click on Search for Media Servers.
* When you see the PS3 Media Server just hit X and then go to where you saved the VOB file at in your computer and play it to verify that it is playing properly on the PS3.
* If the file plays properly then hit triangle and X top copy it to the hard drive.

----------------------------YOU'RE DONE!-----------------------------
Notes:
You can also use PS3 Media Server to transfer any file you want to the PS3, it is the best media server for the PS3 I have found.

There are three problems I have found with this method:

* When you FF and hit play it may take 10 seconds for the movie to start playing again. If you don?t want to wait this long just hit circle and X and it will play from the point you stopped FF?ing.
* The length of the movie is usually displayed at or around 45 min, but the entire movie is in the file.
* Some movies come out to be about 1/2 the size of the TV screen. To remedy this during the movie press triangle, go to Screen Mode, then go to Zoom.

If anyone knows how to remedy the above two flaws please let me know.

Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for any problems you may incur from doing this, this includes but is not limited to: Messed up movies, viruses from downloading programs from untrustworthy sites or turning the firewall off, problems with the PS3, Problems with your computer, lawsuits for copying copy-righted material, etc?
Please note I have not had any problems with my PC or PS3 from doing this.

Troubleshooting:
I've noticed some movies come out with no sound while using DVD Shrink. Here is a way to remedy this:
Download:
DVDFab 5
Join VOB Files Tool

You can use DVDFab 5 for all of your movies, but you will not be able to edit them with the free version and you'll have to join the VOB's so it will be one extra step for you, but then again you don't know if the movie will have sound or not until after it has been ran through DVD Shrink so the decision is up to you.

Backing up your movie:

* First run the DVD through DVDFab 5, you do not need to run it through DVD Shrink.
* Click Start DVDFab HD Decrypter.
* Under DVD to DVD Main Menu click on the main movie. Usually the one with the longest running time.
* Under Source select where the movie is located.
* Under Target select where you want the VOB file to be saved.
* Under audio check your language.
* Under subpicture(subtitles) uncheck everything.
* Click Next
* Click Start

Joining the VOB's

* Open Join VOB Files Tool.
* Click Add VOB File, select where the VOB files are, highlight all of them, and click open.
* Click Change File Name and select where you want the new VOB file to be saved.
* Finally click Join VOB Files and let the program run it's course.
* The movie is now ready to be sent to the PS3.

This method has worked with 99% of my movies that didn't have sound after I ran them through DVD Shrink, but one still isn't producing any audio, I'm trying to fix this problem and when I find out the problem I will post it here.
