Need some advice. I have a Jap Wii with firmware 3.3j and a D2Sun (solderless, think it's v.3??). No homebrew channel.
Prior to buying the Wii+modchip I burned Mario KartWii (PAL)iso with Nero. I tried it and it works fine. The Deca Sports backup (which I got with the Wii+modchip, unsure if it's NTSC or PAL) also works fine.
Then I also got some Gamecube isos which I've burned using ImgBurn, Naruto GNT4 and F-Zero GX both working fine.
I used the same brand of DVD-R discs for all these and using the same dvd burner.
Then I got Twilight Princess (PAL) iso, Super Mario Galaxy (PAL), Smash Bros Brawl (PAL) iso and Okami (PAL) iso. The sizes check out in both WinRAR and ImgBurn.
Now, I burned these several times, using both Nero and ImgBurn on 4x, 2.4x and 2x. With Okami, SMG and TP the Wii recognizes the discs, but gives me a black screen when I try to load it (requiring me to switch off the system). SSB gives me a different black screen with Jap text (which I googled and looks like it asks me to eject the disc and turn off the system).
Now for Okami, SMG and TP I can only assume it's a region problem. But then Mario Kart is also PAL and it works fine...? I read trucha doesn't work for 3.3x so region patching it with WiiFrii won't work anyway right? (I've tried this with Okami and TP, gives me the "Eject and switch off" screen).
Could anyone explain to me why Mario Kart (PAL) works but the others don't? Am I forced to install the homebrew channel and get Gecko OS? Wii Freeloader won't work right? (also trucha signed?)
Can't explain why your Wii will read some PAL and not others but you are probably better off trying to get an NTFS version of your games. It would be more compatible with a Japanese Wii since they use NTFS-J.
Thanks, I'll try some NTSC isos. You're right, after some more research it does seem like PAL to NTSC-J compatibilty is very low, mostly requiring GeckoOS to load them.
Okay, so after some effort I got my hands on Zelda and loaded the homebrew channel and GeckoOS 1.07b. I'm still having trouble loading both SMG and Okami (both PAL). It seems the refresh rate is incompatible with my TV when running them as the TV makes this weird flickering (although, as I said Mario KartPAL runs fine).
Another Q: I'm thinking of installing wiigator loader gamma 3 but I'm unsure what will happen if I install this "cIOS" thing. Is this safe? Will my original games still work after this?
