i am also a beginner like your self, and i maybe wrong. and i will be flashing mine soon.
however, from my understanding, you need to have a specific satachipset in your computer to do it. and the best way people are doing that is to buy the pci sata card via vt6421.
and then you need one of the ck3 connectivity kits out of the pro and lite. and finally you need the ck3 probe.
also you need to consider a way to get into ur xbox 360, can be quite an involved process from what i hear. and you will loose your warranty if you open it (well, there are some ways around that lol).
and then i think you can flash your drive in windows with the program released with the firmware. which is quite good id say, no need to boot into windows 98 and stuff.
This is what I recommend you do as the connectivity kit but the probe is only around 30 to 40 bucks plus shipping but it beats soldering... it's so much easier.
However, to flash it, you must have any SATA Controller and not IDE.
