Hi fellows,
I have a problem with my Nintendo Wii. A couple of months ago I tried to play an imported Japanese game on my Pal system, I was a little bit lucky because I only got a semi-brick (not fully).
Later I downloaded an app called "Wii region changer v1.x" in case of it would help me, ran it, selected PAL->JAP. The app I downloaded did fix my problem with system menu, but now I`m sit with an even bigger problem, I can`t change back to Pal, can`t play backup (Not even originals :( ..?! )

I have tried:
*Reset to default/new settings (delete everything on the system) did also delete Homebrew Channel - huge mistake
*Hard reset
*Install japanese zelda hack
*Install japanese wiikey firmware
++++

Other idčas i have:
Buy a Japanese Zelda TH and try the hack again
Open my wii (blah, again??) and replace the current HD with a new one, patched with Pal firmware.

Any other idčas? What shall I do?

Thaaank you!! :)

saaaart!!

Ok, a couple things here.

When you use the twilight hack you want to use the version that matches your zelda game disk, not your wii. Since you're using a PAL game the J twilight hack wont even load.

Having the japanese wiikey firmware isnt a problem (though you should change it back to PAL once you switch it) The real problem with having changed your wiikey firmware is that it reset it to the default settings, meaning region override is turned off. You cant play any out of region games, original or backups, until you turn it back on.

I would try downloading a japanese copy of zelda before buying one. Its not really piracy since you do own the game and dont even intend to play this copy.

And finally, replacing the wii's hard drive isnt an option because the wii doesn't have one. Instead it has a flash chip soldered to the motherboard.

What I would do is run the wiikey config disk to turn region override back on, run the PAL twilight hack to reinstall homebrew channel, and run the region changer from there. And then I'd delete the region changer from my SD card and never mess with it again.

My chip is still having a Pal firmware, I`ve tried to change it to jap without success. I think about if my wii is jap and my chip also is jap, then it wouldn`t be a problem, then I would be able to play at least J games.
Iam pretty sure a burnt copy of J zelda don`t work because i have already tried the japanese game I`ve imported.
When I think about it I can`t even install the twilight hack on my system, here is some pictures.

I have to choose one of them (have tried everyone except US)

I`m just pressing next

pressing next one more time

I think this is the part where the twilight hack installs (Please, someone who can japanese translate this :) )

The installation is done, I`m getting this massage (translation?)

I`m checking the "apps menu", but nothing is there (??) Why?

Please help me, if I am unable to install the hack, how could I then use the zelda game and run the hack?

saaaart!!

Your terminology is a little off but you are looking in the right place. The twilight hack doesn't install at all, its simply a modified save file that you copy to the wii's internal memory and it runs when you play zelda and load it.

What version of the twilight hack are you using? I dont know what firmware level your wii is running but if it is 3.3 or 3.4 you need specific versions of the hack to work as both of them prevented the hack from copying from the SD card to the wii's internal memory, which seems to be the problem you're having.

First sorry for replying in such an old thread.
Do you guys think the problem will be solved if I replace my DVD drive/motherboard(?)? How do i know that I`m buying a Pal Dvd Drive?

Thank you.

The wii DVD drives have no firmware or region coding, so any drive will work in any wii. However, since theres no firmware in them replacing the drive will do nothing to fix your problem.

Then I don`t understand why they are selling drives, that will do nothing.
Maybe a Flatmii will help, should I try installing one?

The drives are fine for people who broke or wore out their wii's DVD drives. What I'm saying is that for you the replacement drive wont help.

Your problem has to do entirely with the wii's firmware, which has nothing to do with the drive. Which means a flatmii probably wouldnt help either since it functions as a drive replacement. I say probably though because no one has a flatmii yet so I cant say for sure.

I still think you're using the wrong twilight hack version for your wii's firmware, thats the only reason it would fail to copy from the SD card to the internal memory.

You should probably try the advice already given, but I can help you with your screenshots.

Your fourth screenshot just says that the Wii is copying the save file, please don't remove the SD card and don't turn the power off. The fifth picture is saying that you need to play the game once in order to copy the save file (meaning the save file wasn't actually copied). So basically you need to play a Japanese copy of Zelda: TP and make a save file before you can copy/use the JPN version of the Twilight Hack.

I would try following penguin98's advice first (if you haven't, that is) before trying to get a hold of a JPN Twilight Princess.
