my 20gig is broken can't format and even on a pc. don't want to spend $100 on a new one or $50 on a used so i bought a 40GB off online for $10 brand new. 40 is enough for me because i don't store any music or movies in it all on my pc so 40 is much more than i need. but is it like a direct swap hook the new hard drive to my pc and format it under FAT32 put it back together and done or do i have stuff to do to get ti to work

was the 40gb an official xbox drive or was it just a bare drive that you're going to install into the old enclosure

not its not official just a regular sata 2.5" drive

well i dont think you can just buy any random HD and just hope it will work...

HDDHackr is partial to western digital BEVS series drives... i dunno if it will work with others but you can try...

you'll need a security sector binary from a XBOX 360 40gb drive... hopefully you can find that on torrents... the 120gb SS is much more common...
