My case is a little different I'm guessing, since I know NOTHING about anything when it comes to wii/modding/technology in general. I'm not even a gamer! I just play cooking mama sometimes, okay? ( T^T) My dad sent me a modded wii for Christmas, and I'm a little pissed cause I had to learn a whole new language in two days to figure out even how to ask my question here, and my dad isn't responding to me trying to contact him. So, please try to be patient with me.. I really have no idea what I'm doing.
I first got the wii and really didn't know I shouldn't update to 3.4u, I didn't know things were so complicated! So I just went ahead and updated and played normally. Everything runs fine. Then, I decided I wanted to try and burn off a game and play it. System update for the game pops up, it talks about unauthorized blah blah, scares the crap out of me, so I shut the wii off. Then I found out I shouldn't update and I need to downgrade and I can't play some games and whatever. I have homebrew channel installed already ( even though I don't know what it is, it came on the wii when I got it ).
Everything runs fine, and the only thing I want to change is to be able to skip updates for games. Do I need to downgrade? Because the few games my dad sent me still play. I'm not sure if its because he fixed them before he burned them, or because they just don't have updates on them. Is there any way I can fix them myself? ( if thats even what happened ) Like take out the updates before I burn them? I really did search and try to figure things out, so I'm really sorry if this is an obvious question. I found freeloader and starfall, but I think they don't work 3.4u? And also I found a thread that said that 3.4u will update me without warning me too.
So basically I want to know is it really necessary for me to downgrade to skip updates? And if not, how would I skip them? Ahh this post was so long and jumbled but I'm just so confused, sorry! ( T^T)
edit: I'm using dvds by the way, if that matters. Also, I don't know what chip or whatever is used since my dad won't respond to me.. But my wii looks perfectly normal so its inside my wii. I'm not even sure that helps any, but just incase. ( >-<)
If he installed a modchip into the wii and you dont bother with any homebrew then you can let it update without worries so long as the game is from the same region as the wii. I know you said it has the homebrew channel installed but it does not sound like you are using it.
Basically, all you need to know is this: If the game is from the same region as the wii and you dont do anything with homebrew then you can let it update and not have to worry about it.
The warning message talking about unauthorized hardware modifications is just there to scare you.
No, you can do it. Assuming that your modchip is set to support our of region games you can run a program called brickblocker on the DVDiso before burning it that will block the updates from running.
If its not then you'll learn a little bit about homebrew you can boot the game through a program in the homebrew channel called gecko OS. It will let the out of region games boot and also block the updates from the disk.
