Hi gang,

I'm new to this forum. I have a question that I hope is not stupid. I did search the forums for it before posting, so hopefully it's not a duplicate. Here goes.

I had some original CD's a year or so ago. They were service manuals for some old cars. They were NOT copy protected and I didn't think I would ever have a problem with them, but just to be safe, I used Clone CD to make a backup image file of them. I could have easily just copied the files to my hard drive directly and now wish I would have done that. Just thought having one image file would be cleaner and more compact.

Anyway, the CD's are now gone (damaged beyond repair) so I decided to burn new ones from the image files. Clone reads the image files and burns the CD's, and when they are complete, they look fine. However, when I try to run the install.exe file, I get an error that says the file is not a valid win32 application. There are also .bmp files on the disc, but I can't open those either.

I have been a CloneCD user for over 2 years and have never had a problem with it. Admittedly I don't use it often, but I've always copied directly to a CD and have never had a problem with it. This was the first time I had written to an image file instead of a CD. I guess that was a mistake.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong, or what I might be able to do to get these files to work. They seem so close to being correct. It's not like there's no data or Clone crashes during the burn. I'm just hoping it's something I'm doing wrong.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!!

Slysoft have a free app called 'Virtual Clone Drive'.
You can mount the .img file and test the files.
Run the install and make sure that .img is checked.
Reboot and run VCD and enable one drive.
Right click on the .img and 'Open With' => 'Mount Files With VCD'.
Depending on how large the image file is, when ready, open the new virtual drive and test the files.
Since their program created the image, their program should run them.

Thanks attar!

I did what you suggested. Virtual clone drive worked great. I mounted the image and opened the files and they do the same thing on the virtual drive that they do on the CD's I've burned. The bitmaps come up as "invalid image", and the install.exe claims it's not a valid win32 application.

That's making me think the .img files are corrupt, but that's so hard for me to believe that clone would have done that to multiple original CD's when it always works so well CD-to-CD.

Does anyone know if there's a way to scan/repair the files to see what might be wrong?
