Xbox 360 RROD Problems

Hey guys, need some help in trying to fix this issue. I found out that the issue is with the processor. I have tried every fix recommended, penny fix, x clamp fix, etc.
When reheating the system, I noticed witht he x clamp I have to have two screws tight, and the other two loose. (the outer ones loose). If I tighten all of them up, i receive the 3 rrod right away after overheating the system.
I currently have the xbox system console case open and have the air pushing at the processor instead of taken out the air to see if that helps. After 15-20hrs of game play(not constant, just off and on) my video went out and then got the rrod. So I was reading I can put a fan infront of the processor and have it run at 12v instead of 5v the xbox fans run at. Where can I splice into to get this power. I read I can use the dvd power source but wasnt sure.
I really dont know what else I can do. Can I have the chip resodered somewhere to correct this issue since it seems this is the cause of my xbox issue. Why when tightening the xclamp screws does the system sometimes work and other times doesnt. I know it might be putting too much or too little pressure in a certain area but i would thing the tighter the better.
Also, I was thinking about purchasing a new xbox and swapping the dvd drive since I have mine modded but from what i read, you cant swap dvd drives yet on the new systems.
Any recommendations on my situation. I'm getting a bit desperate here. Was even thinking about purchasing a portable fan instead of adding another computer fan and just turning it on while im playing the xbox.

i had a portable fan on mine once, so your not alone, but it was because i somehow had the heatsink on sideways, so i could not get airflow through the fins. so in the meantime while i was trying to fix it and wanted to play, i went to cvs and got a cheap 10$ fan clipped it on and it worked like a charm. back to the x-clamp issue. try putting some pressure on the ana chip and heating that up for a bit with a heat gun to get a good connection, just dont overdue it. then i would try doing the whole x-clamp procedure again. its shutting off because the cpu is getting to hot, which means that most likely the heatsink isnt performing properlly. so i would re-thermal, re-heat, and let it cool down. you could also try relapping the heatsink. hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I might have to try that since im getting to the point to just pick up an new jasper xbox 360 and swap the drives so I dont have to do any soldering.
So the fan did work in your case to stop the rrod from coming back? Did you have a fan blowing just ontop of the open case or was it a computer fan infront of the processor.
Why would the xbox get the rrod right away if I screw in the processor heat sink screws all the way?

sounds like there isnt proper contact between the board,cpu,heatsink. and yes the fan was able to keep my 360 cool enough to play, although it was loud. i just set it ontop of an open case.

Sounds to me like you have the heatsinks crooked. follow this tutorial.

So just like on your F22C1 tighten down the bolts a 1/4 turn at a time across from eachother till they start to get tight. Then finally torque them just a little bit so they won't come back out by trying to twist them with your fingers. Once it's all good and tight you need to overheat the gpu so the rrod doesn't come back. All you have to do is follow the tutorial.
Make sure that heatsink is getting hot, if it isn't then you need to clean it and the processor die and reapply the thermal compound.
After it's all said and done you should cut the metal grill out of the back of the xbox to improve cooling.
If you want you can even add another fan so it ciculates more air into the xbox.

WTF man why is your cpu heatsink sideways? That looks really inefficient.

Thanks for all the info and help guys. I really want to get this crap to work. I dont care about the looks. I'm giong to follow the steps and remove the grill from the back. Im also giong to add another fan to make sure it does stay cool. I was even thinking about modding the case and cutting the case open so the board is exposed and then I can connect all the pieces of the xbox console(HD without tape, front plate, etc).
Regarding the screws and tighting it up, the reason it gives me the rrod while all the screws are tight is because thats making it loose contact?

pushing down on one side may be making the other side come up, then when you tighten down the other side it would still be higher than the other. If i were you i'd start from scratch. This way you know it's done right, and if you still have the problems then you can rule out that possiblity. In my experience all of the bolts need to be tight and everything needs to be even.
It's really not rocket science here, just make sure it's done correctly then move on.

C4RN1, thanks for your help. Im going to do this tonight and give you guys an update. Might not see the rrod again since its technically working after i heated it up but I will follow your recommendations.
Regarding the link you sent on adding a fan, is there a way to splice into the dvd power source. Is there a tutorial on that. I rather do this if possible than solder. Worst case scenario, I can just get a stand alone fan and face it ontop of the xbox to keep it cool.

just thought i would add i have done 3 rrods with x-clamp and all still work to this day, and i too say make sure screws are tight, i never loosened them.

Update:
I did all the steps recommended. And in the end, tightened up the heat sink on the processor pretty good but, a little more than hand tight. If I did it any tighter, it will rrod on me.
I also cut the back grill where the xbox 360 fans were located and made a circular cut ontop of the console since I play with it lying down. I purchased a 10 dollar portable fan from target(white) and placed it ontop. So basically, everytime I play it, I just turn the fan on.
I played around 6-8 hours already with no problems. Even games like dead rising which I know cause it to heat up a bit more.
After playing, I feel both heat sinks to see if its working. The one on the right, belive its for the gpu, is close to room temperature. The heat sink for the processor is warmmer. Its probably that since the dvd player is ontop of it, its not getting the direct fan hit like the other heat sink.
So Ill keep you guys updated. Eventhough it'snot the best looking thing, as long as it works, thats all I care about. The ammount of air that comes out of the xbox now is great. If it messes up again, I would have to say I cant blame it on the heat being a factor.
