ok im getting my wii back tonight, it has a d2sun v3 and os 3.2 i think, around that time i installed the home brew channel. its pal if that helps.
now for the questions
1) is 3.2 still the most recent?
2) if it aint, is it safe to update by wifi?
3) will i need to reinstall homebrew channel after i update?
4) do i need to turn the chip off to update?
1) No, its up to 3.4 now.
2) Yes it is, but you should do some research before deciding to update or not. Firmwares 3.3 and 3.4 broke a lot of homebrew, including the wad installer and trucha-signed disks. These have all been fixed now but if you want to keep using them you need to install some custom firmware patches.
3) No.
4) No.

cool thank you i have been googling for an hour but couldnt find any info on custom firmware patchs (admitadly i wasnt searching for that at the time, any tips where to look?)
ok im at a loss i have googled and cant find anything about custom firmware patches
the stickys on the site say simply if you want to use homebrew dont update
searching the site for custom firmware patches brings a whole host of resaults non of them seem to contain all 3 words at once
please im begging you link me to a tutorial or an informative thread or tell me what i should be googling for
ofcourse you could be pulling my leg the stickys certainly support that theory which would be mean as i dont get that much time between shifts and i have spent most of it on google. i realise you guys get asked 100`s of questions and get peeved answering them but i have searched a lot im stuck i need help
****edit***
the only custom firmware patch i have found so far is a psp emulator dated jul 18th
***EDIT 2****

****edit 3****
updated the thread title to make it clearer what i now need help with
****Edit 4****
i found a site called wiibrew on there main page is the following warning
Quote:Notice: WiiBrew recommends that you do not update your Wii through Nintendo unless there is an immediate need for you to do so.
The current update (v3.4) disables PatchMii and DVDx. If you want to update the Mii Channel you can use CashMan's Mii Channel Updater, this will not update your System Menu to version 3.4.
further on the site in the homebrew channel section then following the 23rd of october link
Quote:3 Oct Updates
From WiiBrew
Jump to: navigation, search
* Twilight Hack still works.
* Homebrew Channel still works, also version Beta9 or higher can be installed.
* BootMii will work when it is released.
These updates will probably be on any game disc whose update partition includes System Menu 3.4 or later.
so does that mean that we dont need to patch the 3.4 with anything or is there a newer thing or does this mean that the homebrew channel will work but homebrew wont arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh i feel like my head will explode
Alright, if you're on 3.4 and want to restore the ability to install wads and such you want to install IOS16.wad using the wad manager in the homebrew channel. IOS16 can still be installed because its an official wad, not a custom one.
From there you can install custom IOS versions to add whatever functions you want.
