Help!!!!!
Just tried to burn my first backup using Verbatim DVD+R DL disks as recommended, but to no avail. Using Image Burn programme to burn and all seemed to be working well until it got to 48% where write rate reduced to 0. Left programme running for 1 hour 30 mins but still nothing. My drive is a Philips DVD+-RW SDVD8431 with firmware LJ41. Not sure if the drive is a DL burner or not, not sure if this is the problem or not?
Anyone help??? Very frustrating.

oh boy... yea, the reason it gets to 48% is because thats the end of the first layer and the beginning of the second, congrads you just wasted a cd. how could you not know if you have a dl burner or not? seriously.

I read on another site that this type of drive was a dual layer player, so I tried it based on that. Is there anyway I confirm if this the drive is definitely not dual layer or not?

Burned the disk at 2.4xand I have just ran nero infotool and it states that I can read and write DVD+R DL disks. So what is the problem then, do I have to change setting of drive prior to writing?

Are you burning the .dvd file? If not did you set the correct layer-break in ImgBurn? Try updating your drive's firmware.

Yeah, right clicked on .dvd file and burned from there. Not sure how to change layer break on image burn, could you advise, this may have something to do with it?
Will also try updating firmware, can I do this on the philips website?

You go to ImgBurn, Tools->Settings, Write tab, then where it says "Layer Break (For DL Media)", choose User Specified and put in 1913760.
Also it should be at the website of the brand of your DL drive.

Layer break now changed, but it doesn't look as if any firmware updates for this drive.
Do you think I should give it another bash, don't really want to waste to many more disks, but not sure what to do next.
Do you think I should use xbox creator, guy I bought drive from says I shoudl use this? Do you burn using the .dvd file using this software as well?

Er you DO NOT need a Pioneer burner. Any new DL burner will do.
@dekerg
If you cannot get any new firmware updates for your drive then maybe buying a new drive will have to do.

Oh I should have articulated better.
I WOULD RECOMEND A PIONEER BURNER, as they do not need a firmware update. Otherwise any other DVD burners will do, but being reliable, I recomend pioneer.
Is that better now.

Update: -
Just tried xbox creator and got as far as 0.69% complete and tried image burner again after changing layer break and got 3% complete.
Really don;t know what to do know, not to technically minded so need all the help going to be honest. Please help. Have copies of error messages if needed. Best result so far seems to be a straight image burn which resulted in 48% complete. Still think this has something to do with drive not burning on the second layer.
Could it be down to scratched game which was read?
HELP!!!! (3 disks down 7 to go)

I would need and prefer an external drive connected by USB if possible. What models and model numbers would people suggest. Samsung etc.
A solution to my original problem would be most suitable. Help!!!

Don't have money to burn (pardon the pun), nero info tool says my drive writes dvd+r dl so why is it not working.
What drive are you using and what is the model and model number?
Sorry for not being as technically minded as the rest but just want some advice.

Yes it is actually....
Anyways, @dekerg
It seems that you will need to buy a new external DL writer. Like I said, any new DL writer will do.

Changed layer break and altered .dvd file, as well as change write speed to 2x and write completed to 100%. However, on finalisation the dvd drive popped out and I got a message to say that this was normal and to close drive and click ok. Did that but it didn't look as if it was doing anything so i opened drive again and image burn shouted oh no. Since tried it in xbox and it states unreadable disk. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?
