Hi,
I've tried to search for this online but couldn't find a clear answer. Hope you guys won't mind helping.
I have a 3.3J Wii with D2ePro Key installed and also Homebrew channel and softchip loader installed when I bought it. Everything is working fine..after trying to load a backup Pal version of Lego Indiana Jones...the softchip loader won't work anymore. Any disc I put it end up with a won't bunch of numbers and letters after it tries to load. Not sure what caused it.. but I figure I need to reinstall a new copy of softchip again?
Can anyone let me know how to install softchip loader..I read something about needing to install a CIOS first...I am not really familiar with this stuff..so if there's a tutorial somewhere.. I'd really appreciate it

Why do you need a softmod if you have a modchip installed? Any reputable Modchip should be region free compatible. If not then use Gecko OS to boot Import games.

I need it to run some of the games I have that shows I need to do a system upgrade...I got these in Asia and they didn't perform brickblocker. So the softmod avoids software upgrade when running.. this was working fine with softchip loader which no longer works..it gives a dump of numbers when it tries to run.
I've managed to install Wiigator gamma0.3 and it seems to work fine..however, is it normal that when it starts to read the disc, you can't change any setting? Also, is it supposed to work with Super Smash Brawl? I have a copy I got in Asia which worked fine with Softchip loader, but now it will load through Wiigator launcher but when it gets to the selection screen, the selection seems to automatically go back and forth between the choices as if some controller is moving around.

D2Pro has an option to automatically block updates from the disk.
Booting the game through Gecko OS will also block the updates.
You can also re-rip the game disks using imgburn on read mode (no need for a special drive) brickblock and reburn them.
And finally, so long as your wii is at an equal or higher firmware than the one on the disk the only thing that will happen from letting the update run is you'll get duplicate channels. No bricking or semi-bricking and theres even a duplicate channel remover homebrew program that removes them and keeps them from ever trying to reinstall themselves.
Basically what I'm saying is that you have many more options than the backup loader. Since you're having trouble with it why not try something else?

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry for so many questions, I am still trying to understand all this stuff.
I have installed both WiiGator Backup launcher and Gecko OS...are they both the same thing? Seem to be the same screen..also, I still have trouble doing configuration if the disc is already in placed..is this normal? i.e. it boots automatically and I can't change for example to force NTSC with the remote.
How can you rip the disc on imageburn? I don't see a read function..thought you needed a specific type of drive to rip..?
I thought running a disc from another region and updating it through the software will cause semi-brick? So it's safe to just run directly from the disc..just have to remove the channels after?
Finally, is D2ePro the same as D2C? I can't find any website with D2eProKey..but it's what the installed on my Wii..how can I block the software update? I know for region change they had to set the jumper with wires..

They aren't the same thing. Wiigator can load backups without a modchip and gecko cannot, but gecko doesn't need a cIOS. It just lets you boot out-of-region games, tweek video settings and block updates from the disk.
On imgburn, go to the mode drop down menu at the top and hit read. It only works for games that are already backups. Original games need the special drive to read them. Backups can be ripped with any drive.
Its only safe to run an update from an out of region disk if you have a higher firmware than what is on the disk. The update won't overwrite a later firmware, it just adds the channels that it thinks are missing. If you have a lower firmware than what is on the disk though then that will semi-brick.
And theres no modchip called D2EProKey. Theres a modchip called the D2Pro (which is what I thought you were talking about) and the Wiikey2. Now that I'm searching for D2EProKey though I have found one website that has the Wiikey2 listed under the name 'D2EPro' so maybe thats what you have.
The reason you see so many guides that say to use different cIOS versions is because they recommend using whatever is the most recent at the time, and there are new ones coming out all the time.

Thanks again for your explanation. My chip is definitely a D2ePro as I asked them to open the box for me to see what it's inside. There's also some link for it but I can't find a site that tells me whether it can be flashed or if it can bypass the software upgrades.

For now I've installed both Gecko and Backup Launcher..they seem to work in loading the games.. except I still have trouble setting configs if the disc is in...so it automatically launch the game and none of the button works to change config or try to hook reboot. Any ideas why that would happen? The videos I've seen online seem to show you can choose to config or launch the game instead of letting it automatically start.
Anyway..if anyone has ideas about Softchip launcher..I'd still appreciate it..it seem to worked better as it read even the dual layer super smash bros that I have.

i got my wii over xmas, done all hacks etc, using wii gator0.3 to lunch games. works a treat and also i use cheap brand - disk which work fine.
games to date: mario kart, mario party 8, fifa09, star wars.

Hi Pengin & everbody,
There are some enquire I need your advise.I had install the gecko os 1.07b #002 error fixed version .When I lauched the gecko os 1.07b through the homebrew channel.It show me "gecko os 1.07b & below show no description".
When I lauched the gecko os 1.07b, the tv srceen will show installation bar but completed very fast.After that I able to go in the configure option & the rebooter option.Need your help to explain to me how to configure those option.I had tried to force the ntsc & rebooter option with region free.But everytime I lauched a new game I need to run the gecko os 1.07b.Does some wrong I do during the installation of the gecko os 1.07b.
I had read that gecko os need a mod chip to operate.is it true?My wii FW 3.3j & with wiikwy 1.9s.
Can I load the willgiator on the some wii if I had the gecko os loaded already.Where should get the wiigator 0.3 gamma?

i thought mod chips should start playing disks with any other s/ware?
install wiig... using t/l hack (google it) burn games same reg as wii, load via b/up channel.

Hi
I am not sure about it.Some of my burned game cannot work before I use the gecko os 1.07b.example donkey kong,need for speed undercover.But once i lauched the game through gecko od 1.07b ,it work for both.But there are some game still having blank screen.Hope someone can help to guide about the black screen issue.that why i need to confirmed that gecko os only work when u had a mod chip.Example emgermce hero & ski & shoot game.I read about backup loader & wiigator gamma 0.3 .what is the different.I will like to load it.Not sure will it make my mod chip bad.

hey, if you guys read Penguin's post to my questions before you'll find the answer. WiiGator backup launcher allows you to play backup... Geckco doesn't, but it allows region free play and also setting for video and bypass software upgrade.
For those of you using Wiigator and Gecko...can you config the thing if the disc is in placed or does it automatically launch the disc? I am having trouble making configuration changes before it reads the disc unless I load it without disc first let it have a disc error (since there is no disc), then the config screen will respond.
I think not all games work, that's why some have black screen..I've experienced that too with some backups...but other works fine!

That should be fine...I have a modchip installed.. and I have both Gecko and Wiigator installed now...only problem is the also load thing which is messed up!
