Just got my grandson a Wii. He has already scratched a few games. After lots of research on this site and others I was able to install the HBC using the "Zelda hack". The "apps" installed in HBC didn't seem to work. Got an error that said "Not a valid Wii application". What do I need to do to have a working "backup loader" on my HBC? The kids are dying to play. Oh yeah, I have 3.4U. Thanks in advance.

The reason your apps arent working is because you seem to have gotten old versions of your apps. Get current versions here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/List_of_homebrew_applications

And as for getting the backup loader working, try this guide, credit to larrylje for making it.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I followed these instructions below and now the "loader" boots. When I choose launch game, I get an error that's hard to read: Error: Set ....?? Could this be a bad disc? I used IMGBurn @4x on a DVD-R. Thanks again.

"Now go HERE and download this file.

Format your SD Card so all previous files are off it.

Extract the downloaded file (it will extract to a Boot Loader Gamma folder).

Drag the 00000001 folder and apps folder inside the Boot Loader Gamma folder to the root of the SD Card (drag the 2 folders to SD Card root not the Boot Loader Gamma folder itself).

Now place the SD Card in your Wii and launch the Homebrew Channel.

Select cIOS installer in the list and launch it. Follow the on-screen instructions to install it and it should reboot after it has installed.

Now all you have to do is place a game backup in the Wii start the Homebrew Channel and launch the WiiGator gamma boot loader.

After it is installed you can delete the 00000001 folder and the cIOS_installer249 folder located in the apps folder."

OK, I got this far thanks to all the great help here at AD. Seems I have HBC and the loader now running fine but I can't get a backup to load. Do I need to "patch" the iso in any way first or am I doing something wrong? Burned on multiple brands of DVD-R's at 4x. Still get the error when the launcher tries to load the game. The error is hard to read because it looks like there is 2 sets of writing. Please help if you can. Thanks again!!

edit:I just tried to play an original (Zelda) through the backup loader and got the same error. Any ideas???

Thanks proximo68. I knew that. I just wanted to see if the loader would boot an original game to see if maybe my .iso's were bad burns. Not sure if I need to downgrade or patch my iso's. My grandkids are getting restless lol. I got this far, I must be missing something. If anyone can help, please do. TIA

why don't you try booting your back up games with the Gecko OS on the HBC. download it from the site they gave you on top than put them in your apps SD card than try booting your games through Gecko. (that's if you have you wii moded thou)

Maybe it'll work.

The Wii is unmodded. :( I thought about sending it out to have it chipped, but the kids would be lost without it! I can't let them down. I am hoping someone else had the same problem and can help me.

I'm in the same situation, managed to get the backup launcher to load games by uninstalling all the WAD's i had installed before i installed the wiigator gama backup launcher and cios. My games boot up but still can't be played as an error appears. I'm trying verbatim DVD-R's now using imgburn. Hope that helps.

So you can get the games to load before the error? I hit "Launch Game" and then I get the error while still "in" the loader. It sounds like the disc is trying to be read then the error. Maybe someone can help. Running 3.4U, cIOS249 AND Wiigator gamma. Can anyone help??? TIA
