A question about YDL6.0 formatting.

This is probably a no brainer but when you install ydl 6 do you have to delete everything on the ps3.

If you have an external USB harddrive available then you can back everything up, to then partition for Linux, and then copy everything back. But in a worst case scenario you could just use a USB thumb drive to backup your gamesave stuff, partition and then copy them back and proceed forward.

Also why are you using 6.0 when 6.1 is available which now utilizes the PS3's WiFi & DS3 Controllers "right out the box" so to say. Plus it uses the Video ram for swap which speeds things up quite a bit!

Got it all up running and installed, didn't back up my stuff, I just did it. 2 Questions though:

1 I can't seem to install real player. Here is what happens. 

chmod a+x RealPlayer11GOLD.bin

./RealPlayer11GOLD.bin

bash: ./RealPlayer11GOLD.bin: cannot execute binary file
Whats wrong? I'm a first time Linux user and all this stuff about installing programs by commands is all new to me.


If I install RealPlayer or some other media player I have a fairly old (2-3 years) surround sound system hooked up to my PS3 via optical toslink cable. So basically if I play a DVD on Linux will it come through as 5.1 surround sound?

All answers are much appreciated.

Why use Realplayer? Just use VideoLan (VLC) as from my understanding it is compatible with like EVERYTHING! Plus available for Linux...

You said 6.1 supports wifi out the box. What encryptions work with it? I heard it only works with wep and I use wpa.

Good question zero of which I don't know the answer to! Go to the YDL forums and search/ask over there...I am sure they can easily help you out.
