Hi,
N*L Ireland are saying they are giving everyone new cards for their digital boxes. I think it gives new features... not sure...
but my question is:

Will or could this stop modified digial boxes working?

As I am thinking of buying another box for a relative and want to be sure it will work - at least for 6 months...

Thanks.

I noticed this myself on info channel. I reckon if the purpose behind the new cards is to combat the use of modified boxes it will not be ready for quite some time.
Think about it, they will need to get a new card out to EVERY customer and verify each of them are working before they effectivly throw the switch that "ends the game".
There has to be a few hundred thousand customers out there with a good proportion of them using modified boxes. Thats a lot of cards and a lot of verification phone calls. Thats gonna take a lot of time.
Here's a thought, what would happen if, when everyone with modified box got their new card they rang the provider and said it isn't working. If it were a sizable enough portion of the customer base maybe it'd slow any changeover, after all if they have lots of people still on the current system it'd be a bit silly switching it off. Obviously its unlikely to happen as it would need nationwide collaboration which of course none of us condone, but it'd be one in the eye for provider.

In answer to your question Id say your safe for your 6 months. I wouldn't be surprised if you dont double or triple that timeframe.

if they are changing the encryption say to nag3 wont they have to issue all new boxes as well as cards? or will the current boxes decode nag3 with sub card ?

@karljd, what does the card do?

Does anyone know if this is going to stop modified boxes?

If you were me would you buy a box now... or wait a while and see?

It was supposed to be a Christmas present so it's a bit late already :)
