Firmware version is 3.2U
Used Twilight Hack to install Homebrew
Got SSB the other day and just tried it out - system will not let play unless I update the firmware

The problem is that I'm not sure what firmware version it will upgrade to or whether it will mess the system up if something goes wrong with the hack installed

Any advice?

You need to install starfall. There is an option to skip updates

Or just geckoOS. Easier to install.

Or just let it run the update. If its the same region as the wii the update wont change anything. Even if its a different region then it'll just give duplicate channels.

But won't it be a later firmware than I have? And remove the Twilight Hack?

I tried Starfall but for some reason it won't run properly. Can't get past the warning screen regardless of button presses. But if it's safe to just let the game update, then I'll just do that

Are you pressing b + 1 and not B + 2 to install Starfall?? You need to press it more than once sometimes

Ok so that didn't help. I did finally get through by hitting b1 several times but while it skipped the update check I could not load the game. I would just get a black screen

So can anyone help with providing info on letting the SSB disc update my system?

You have a backup of the game or the real thing?

Nope. Smash bros only contained firmware 3.1. Meaning it actually update your wii past it's current level of 3.2. And even if you did update it all the way to 3.4 and remove the twilight hack it wont effect your homebrew channel installation. Once the channel is installed you dont need the twilight hack anymore.

Ok, here's how game updates work. Most game updates runs 2 checks. First it checks that your firmware level is at least 3.1. That check passes and it moves on to check 2. It checks if your news and weather channels are up to date. However, if you're running an out-of-region game you must remember that the channels are region specific. It will check for the channels from the game's region and, not seeing news and weather channels from the game's region it will install them. So nothing will be broken, you'll just get duplicate channels.

Smash bros contains another update though. Its a minor patch that increases the power of the laser to read dual layer disks better. Letting it install that update wont break anything at all.

Again though, you can use gecko OS to skip the update entirely. You really dont need starfall at all.
