I just tried to connect to LIVE and got a message saying that I must download a console update or else I'll be signed out of LIVE. I suppose the console update in question is the NXE. The problem is that I don't want the NXE and am happy with the current interface. I'm also not sure how the 1.4 ixtreme firmware will work with NXE, and would rather not experiment. So is it possible to, at the very least, download but not install the NXE? And if I disconnect my hard drive and remove all memory cards, will I still be forced to download the update?

Yeah, you're going to be forced to update to play on live. And it works fine with ixtreme 1.4 so don't worry about that.

The 360 will still load NXE.

According to what I have heard, the NXE is around 128 MB and installs on a hard drive or memory unit. If I boot without a hard drive or memory unit, where will the NXE be loaded from?

the internal flash memory isn't sufficient to hold the entire update

Speaking of the NXE, does anyone know if it comes with Divx/Xvid support or would I still need to download a separate update?

If you don't want to listen to others, then why ask a question?

If you don't update, you can't connect to LIVE. If you do update, you're stuck with NXE. The updated dash is stored on the console, not the hdd. If you do boot without a hdd or mem card, you'll still have the new dash but you couldn't connect to LIVE because you can't load a profile.

So choose, NXE or LIVE.

All this crap about the NXE, is iXtreme safe, and the other stuff you keep asking has been covered over and over and over. What gives? The mods keep closing your threads, and yet you keep starting new ones asking the stupidest crap.

I mean, no offence... if you want help, that's what these forums are for. But if you can't help yourself why should others help.

to the Afterdawn Addict: my initial question was answered a long time ago.

my current question, which I asked on this thread because I don't want to be accused of creating too many threads, concerns the NXE and integrated Divx/Xvid support.
