I'm new here and I hope someone can help me, I installed Internet Explorer 7 on my laptop last night and when I woke up this morning I had the blue screen on it, unmountable_boot_volume. I couldn't even get into safe mode, nothing.I got a windows xp pro cd and got into setup, pressed r like I read somewhere and then put in chkdsk /p but it keeps getting to 39% only and keeps saying the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems. This laptop was used for school and there is a lot of stuff on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

the simplest thing to do would b to re-format the hard drive and re-install windows. i there is stuf you need to backup then use a LiveCD like Slax (which is Free), to recover all of your stuff and then re-install windows.

No matter what I do, I keep getting the blue screen, can't get into safe mode or anything, I have a copy of Windows xp pro and I can get to the recovery console but when I chkdsk /p it will only get to like 50% and stop, chkdsk /r doesn't do anything either.I'm not to sure how to reformat, will I lose all my programs? All my school programs were already in the laptop when I got it, photoshop, flash, javascript, everything. Can someone give me a step by step with any suggestions on how to reformat or a solution.
Greatly Appreciated
Thanks

ok when you insert the xp disc, instead of trying to recover it, you go to install the operating system. As your going through the steps, the installation will say what partition you will want to install the operating system. then delete that partiton, create the partiton and then it will ask you to format the hard drive, then click on NTFS and let it re-format and then it will install XP.

Hope this helps and anymore help PM me for my email address or carry on posting on this page.

So does that mean I lose everything I have on there?
