I moved my dvd drive farther away then the original sata cable would allow. So I purchased a sata cable long enough, but it wouldn't work. I lengthened the original it works sometimes but other times it wont. Does anyone know where to get a longer one that will indeed work in the 360 thanks

My bad about the caps, and really I asked a simple question if you havnt the answer why reply to the question. Ps who gives a #@#@ what happened to Manning tonight I am more worried about this cable issue. So obviously your not the brain on this site your the addict that probably asked some how to ?'s before huh. Please only respond back with a solution for the problem on hand please.
Better yet is there a special sata cable that they use. If so surely someone knows a place to get a longer one or not?
My next solution I shall try i guess is to deal away with the plugs and solder straight from the drive to the mobo. The downfall would be having to remove them together. I hope there is another solution.
A SATA cable is a SATA cable. There shouldn't be any issues there.
Try monoprice for cheap solutions on SATA cables.
I'd just keep trying until you get one that works consistently. Other than that, they don't use any special cable as far as I know. Microsoft is big on using cheap ass parts so the more generic the better.
you will run into problems with cables over 12 inches or so, at least in my experience you will. so either use a cable shorter than that, or move the dvd-rom in the case so its close enough to the MOBO for a cable of that length.

Probably good advice. If the components don't have enough power to send a signal over 12 inches, you'd run into problems.
You should be able to move it closer without sacrificing airflow if you're using a computer case.
