Okay I JUST bought a PS3 60GB Australian Model that uses emulation not the Emotion software... anyway I wanted to know 2 things...

1. Can it run games that need the HDD from the original PS2
2. can it run games from other regions.

I want to know these things because in Australia we only have the 360 version of Final Fantasy XI so I wanted to know weather I can import it from America and play it on a Australian PS3? also can I play Katamari Damacy here? (we don't have it).

Tnx in advance PSPSAVER

mesba, that link doesn't help answer the question. It just says what package has what.

That said...

1.) You can download the "PS2 system data" from the PSN. It'll partition a part of your HDD so that PS2 games that require a HDD can access it.

2.) Google says no.

Mesba713, He is not trying to play a PS3 game. He wants to play FFXI (Which is a PS2 Game)NTSC version on a PAL PS3.

Yes it can run games that need the PS2 HDD, however the fact that the game you want to play is the NTSC version that is not going to work. Even on a backwards compatible system.

If you're really, ABSOLUTELY intent on playing it, you COULD try looking in this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/499497

It's about playing PS2 backups, but it MIGHT deal with playing region-locked games, as well. I can't be sure. I highly doubt it, but it's always possible.

The above method should work to play games from other regions.
But for FFXI, I don't think it'll beany good:
Quote:
You can't install FFXI with a swap disc. DNAS will detect it, and FFXI has to be installed from inside PlayOnline Viewer, once PlayOnline Viewer is running off the har ddrive. The install button won't work unless the FFXI disc is in the tray, and you can't boot Swap Magic inbetween that reboot. The booted disc ID has to match that of what PlayOnline Viewer expects, and Swap Magic has a different ID.
